View Full Version : Win 2k will not boot... =(
Hi!
Mayby someone could help me wiyh my problem ..
I have tried for some time now to overclock my athlon prossesor .. the multiplier lock has been removed.. and changing multiplier does work ... BUT .. if i run the prossesor at more than 1050MHz .. windows wont boot .. just a message saying that win2k canīt find system files ... i have tried raising the core voltage .. but with no succes ... PLZ HELP MEEE!!!
system conf:
Athlon t-bird 1000@1050 (100*10.5)
asus a7v
512MB pc-133 sdram
Matrox Millenium g450
idm deskstar 60gxp 40GB
Plz help me with this ..

Sorry, I cant help u but i have the Exact same problem with my processor if i take it past 1.15, i was just going to post a similar message so i'l be keeping my eye on this one, sorry bout the bad luck, i believe my problem was being caused by low voltage because i cant rais the Core Voltage past 1.9 and i have to run it at that to run it stable at even 1.1Ghz, what was your default voltage?
My default voltage was 1.75 .. i tried to raise it to 1.85 with no better result .. i have been whining over this for a month soon ... so i realy hope someone has the answer ... That problably would make both u and me happy .. =)
I'm getting the same kind of problem: I think I have narrowed the cause down to either the cheap pc133 ram I have or low +5v readings- the HIGHEST I've seen is 4.8 volts. Of course it could be both! I'm going to try getting higher +5v with different psu's or maybe hook up a second to run drives etc- just have the mobo on one by itself.
I have seen posts and articles on problems with low +5v lines, including stuff on how to adjust or mod a psu to get more volts.
I'll be following this thread also, since I'm pretty new to this stuff, so if anyone tries something, post results! Even if it DOESN'T work!!

rulle>> What are your CPUs steppings? It could just be a bad chip for OC?
what exactly do you meen with stepping ?? =)
The FSB and multiplier ??
If thatīs it .. i have tried everything from 10*110 to 12*100
every step you can ... nothing seem to work....

Ok... Stepping are the lines of numpers and letters printed on the Die of the chip, i have never been able to look at mine because i dont have any thermal compound (the "gunk" put between the heat sink and CPU to help transfer heat A LOT better) to replace what little is currently on it if i wipe it off so i can read whats on the Die.
i can check whats printed on mine ... and see if we can get anything out of that .... but that will be a project of tomorrow since it 02:21 here and schools starts at 08:20 ...

I have encountered that problem too( when running at 1050Mhz ).. in my case I have the error " NTLDR is missing " or sometimes, my mobo wont detect my primary drive... I'm already contemplating of upgrading my PSU, since most of the similar problems tht I have read, points towards a bad PSU... I'll be getting a 350W Enermax this weekend ( hopefully )
*whine*
i guess ... i will have to get a new PSU .... =( .....
thx anaway!

Isnīt there anyone out there who have any other things that i can try ?? PLZ help me ... i canīt be one of thoes who run their prossesors in original speed .... =(( ...

well im going to say its your ide controllers not gettin genough juice or it cant handle being OCed
The IDE controller could be the problem ... but how can i test it ?
Itīs now running at 1100 (105*10.5) and so far no crashes ....
but hopefully i can get it running at higher speeds ..
Does anyone own a A7V mobo with a Athlon 1GHz ? .. and hava a succesfull OC ?? .. If you do ... plz post ALL info about your system conf.. Vcore, bus, multiplier, degrees on cpu, mobo .. all you can come up with ..
Plz help a man with n00b tatoo on the forehead .. =)

I tried my new psu, and the +5v line is now reading 5.00 to 5.03:
no change in 'clockability though.
So I am stuck with it being my memory I think.
I have one 512mb stick of pc133 in it now, but I think I'm going to try some of the 128mb sticks (1 at a time) to see if any of them work. I know this stick won't run at cas2, but the ram in my other amd does so............maybe that will help.
try the memory and post your result here ... if it works i will get some high quality memory and praise you ... =)

Ok, I have a 1Ghz T-Bird and an A7V MB too, to start with, I definitely have a successful OC at 11x, 100FSB(1.1Ghz) @ 1.85Vcore , i have also got it to run rock solid at 10x, 110FSB also 1.1Ghz@1.85Vcore, but to be able to get it stable at 110FSB, I had to change the I/O Voltage Settings (VIO) to 3.68, which I heard isn't worth it cuz it has a habit of frying things.
My plans are to bo that little resistor trick to alter the Vcore settings, hear's a link if your interested:

I wont be able to OC it reliably any further till I do that, if I decide it's worth it.

You'll actually be able to get a much better OC if you get yourself some good cooling.
I have the same problem, with windows that won't boot when I use 1200 mhz.. (Which is the speed of the processor)
