Hey all... My grandpa just dumped off OS/2, and I decided to try to install it. In order to dual boot, it needs a special 1Mb partition for the boot manager. As such, you have to FDISK the disk and create and delete partitions. Well, I need to backup my HD. I decided that in order to make everything simple, I would copy my whole C: drive onto my second HD. Unfortunatly, I can't copy files in use inside of windows, and I don't know a command that will work from DOS.

COPY won't copy over the directory structure, XCOPY won't copy hidden or system files, DISKCOPY won't copy from/to a HD. Are there any DOS copy commands I am forgetting?

Use attrib -ahrs /s c:\ first then use xcopy.

Yeah, I thought about doing that, only, if I remove all the atributes of the files, then all the files won't have atributes when I restore them. I don't wanna see my hidden files. They were hidden with good reason, and it makes my drive look REALLY cluttered. Anything else you can think of (other than using COPY from each and every directory)?

norton ghost is what you're looking for...

or you could use partitionmagic to partition the drive without having to worry about losing data....
