the 9800 pro is a good card, but you should get 6600 gt because it is a newer generation. Everything else looks good

What is it mainly going to be used for? What's the budget your working on? Because if you can spare another $50 or so, you might as well get the 3400+ Clawhammers. If you have an even higher budget, go for SLI.

I would say go for a 3200+ venice instead, but my question is why are you goin nforce3/agp instead of the nforce4/pci-e path?

You should really consider going PCI-E. Also are you overclocking?

this build is pretty much for gaming, although i don't need the best of the best, just as long as the games (for example, WoW or HL2) run decently smooth

i would say my max would be $1500, including the LCD monitor

is an nforce4/pci-e build a lot more expensive?

oh yea, i don't plan on OCing, if that changes anything

is an nforce4/pci-e build a lot more expensive?

No, not at all. In fact sometimes PCI-E cards are cheaper. Such as the X800XL PCI-E being $250 while the AGP version being much higher.

I would probably go with soemthing like this.
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra
AMD Athlon 64 3500+
Corsair Value Select
ATi Radeon X800XL

That should get you started.

ok, so lets see:

EPoX EP-9NPA

ati radeon x800xl 256MB

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice

that sounds pretty good, at around $1500 so far, any other suggestions?

Not saying Epox boards are bad, but I've nothing but good things about DFI n-force 4 Lanparty boards.

He's doing gaming, Epox boards are usually known for pretty high graphic results. And yeah, you should spend money on a SLI configuration, mainly because you can save money by not buying parts to overclock and just spend a bit more on graphics and such. If you have enough money, get a XP-90C too, some games, such as Guild Wars, make your system run at full load, a heatsink would help it a lot.

what's an SLI configuration?

edit: nevermind, i looked it up, nah i don't really want to do an SLI config, the computer is for gaming, but im pretty sure the games will run fine enough without any overclocking or using two video cards, they just need to run decently

also, so the stock heatsink that comes with the chip wouldn't be good enough?
