I was wondering if other people where having the same problem as i was with my first gen. T-Bird. I have it clocked from 1.0 to 1.1 and i was trying to figure out what kinda temps other people where geting with this configuration, my temps seem like there getting a little outa control. i have removed my hsf several times lately and i know i definitly NEED to get more thermal compound on it... currently it's 53c:mad: and i dont like it at all, i think i'm gona go under clock it till i can get some, let me know soon, thanx.

No one wants to help.... Plz. Update: My Machine is now running at 800Mhz with a temp of 38c. And correction, I was trying to ask what kinda temps people where getting with a 1Ghz Proc.
I have an older 900Mhz Tbird that I can hardly OC at all and when I do the temps were the same as yours. Getting a better heatsink helped some but in the end I cut it back to stock speed with stock heatsink and saved the better heatsink for a better stepping proc and mb that could use it. Guess what I'm saying is- I had the same problem.

What are you using to cool that devilish little cpu? What is your case cooling setup? TBirds in general require a good cooling setup in stock configurations.
When you begin overclocking you need to double and triple those needs for fresh air and exahust air. The way to do that is 1) buy a nice, all copper HSF like a Millenium Glaciator or preferably an Thermalright SK6. And 2)..have good case cooling...
You should have at least 1 fresh air intake fan mounted down low and one exahust fan mounted up high in your case. If you have a very small case you might want to consider doing some shopping for something larger. Hope this helps..add some other info regarding your current cooling setup and we'll see what we can do!! ;)

wat kind of hsf you using? if your using the stock one, and you ahve all that crap thermal pad left on it, and it's all over the place, then it might screw around with your chip. If you plan on removing your hsf that many times, then get yourself a nice bottle of 5 dolla cheap radio shcak thermal grease (I'm too cheap to take of 2 degrees fo Artic Silver)

I have had similar high temps when the contact between the cpu and hsf was not good. It is also hard to tell if the cpu temp probe is correct. I try to test mine by idling with the halt command on and comparing the mobo temp and cpu temps. One of these days I'll buy a true temp monitoring probe but unless you have one it can be difficult to get 'true' temps. I think AMD gives you up to 70C so 58C is not deadly. How stable is the system? If it dosen't crash at high temps you could still use it until you can get the temp figured out.
Lapping the heatsink can help too but is also 'shortens the sink' I found. There are some cheap heatsinks out there that are much bigger than the stock ones try one of those if you still have the stock heatsink. A faster fan can do wonders as well.
My first Duron 600 ran at 60C to 65C load with the postage stamp sized default cooler but it lived, until I crushed it of course, but that's another story. Over clocking always reminds me of a proverb I heard once:
if you roll a rough stone on the ground long enough it will eventuall polish smooth
it's one of those try and try again deals, hang in there, I'm sure you'll get it sorted out!

Ok, well, last week, i got 2 new 80mm fans, one for the front and rear, that cut off 20c from the mainboard temp alone. my plans are to get 120mm circular saw to cut a hole in the side of the case, I dont know if i want it over the AGP/PCI cards or the CPU yet, that should be nice, currently i have been running an old small Vortex fan with the side pannle off, and it has done a world of wonder for my OC G-Force card, the card would run at a smooth 60c with the case intact, but with the fan is front of it, it's running nicely at 44c, I like it.
