WoooooOOOOO00000 I just ordered this from newegg, From everything Ive read I feal very good about this purchase...............!!!

OCZ Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model OCZ4001024ELDCGE-K

One small problem tho maybe some ram experts can help me?

I want too retain this stick in the system
Crucial PC3200(ddr400)
partnumber 16VDDT6464AG-40BGB
sn# 0D095678
WEEK 51,YEAR 04
cpuz reports timeings as 3 3 3 8

Im guessing If I want the preformance of the OCZ Gold Ill have to remove this Crucial stick ??? as you know ocz gold are rated 2 2 2 5

Im very doubtfull Ill be able to keep that crucial stick in the system need some opinions.

Will I get better preformance with 1.5 gig on the slower timeings

Or better preformance with 1 gig at the faster timeings ?

Stupid questions I know but Im kinda ignorant when it comes to ram

ugg, im gonna say that 1.5gigs will be better then 1gig with tight timings. and crucial can still do the whole X-2-2-X that the OCZ gold will wanna do. look on that stick very very carefully, do you see anything that says -5b C or -5b G?? you might wanna do the OCZ gold, as its kinda frowned to have liek 1.5gigs. i dunno, its gonna be a mixed bag, and im sure giving the crucial the 3.3v+ that the ocz gold will need isnt healthy either.

Is your Abit mobo a single or dual channel board? I apologize, but I am not familiar with the mobo in your sig. What chipset is that (nForce,Via, etc.)?

If dual channel, you clearly will loose the benefit of the dual channel when running the 1.5 gigs. If single channel board, then that is a non-issue.

What kind of voltage can you give the ram? With any UTT based ram, in order to run the high fsb it requires 3.2 or so which may or may not be more than the mobo will do. If the mobo's chipset or voltage limits will keep you from running 230 or more, then you might be better off with the 1.5 gigs at slower timings, provided that they will even run together. Not all sticks play well together.

Micron ram sometimes will run CAS2, but usually the lowest value is 2.5. It will probably run 2.5-3-3-x at 200 and maybe even 2.5-2-2-x or 2.5-3-2-x if good sticks so the timings wont be dog slow, just not 2-2-2 type stuff.

If you can run high fsb and give the ram the needed voltage, then I would be inclined to at least bench the 1 gig of UTT to see how well it performs compared to the 1.5 gig of mixed ram.

Good luck with your new toys.

Theoreticly dual channel is so posed to double the memory bandwidth but in an AXP system it doesn't really work so dual channel is kinda useless IMO. I don't know how exactly it will perform but I suggest you try it with the crucial for a few days and without and decide what runs smoother.

OCZ can't guarantee that mixing our ram with other brands will work. If you do try running all 3 sticks make sure you set cas 2.5 in the bios as the gold will most likely not boot at cas 3. You may also need a bios that can disable CPC (I don't even remember if those have been made for this board) since 3x512MB's of ram will really stress the boards memory controller

Bump at Steve

Steve will this ram run in that mobo ?

if you run the ocz and the crucial you wont be able to dual channel the ocz memory.

Hey

The ram will work on the motherboard. CPC is command per clock and it's one of the memory timings.

Take a look through this thread. It should make things more clear :)

You're gonna love the OCZ ram, it rocks and overclocks. I would put the 0.5 gig in a box and go for the tight timings and let those gold sticks breath. You're Barton core will thank you with performance. If you do go with the faster timing, check around for others with that board running tight, the last digit may have to be tweeked. I'm not sure about the VIA controller, but for the nforce2, I had to set my XP ring to 2-2-2-11 to get it to work but check around for your boards best setting.

This mobo "Kv7" has a heat issue with the mosfett's, Learned that in the past. Cant push the voltage at all it just cant take it.

Time for a new mobo anyone have a good suggestion, one that will let this ram work too its potential with the barton chip

I thought the NF7 was the best?

The DFI was the best overclocking NF2 board if you could put up with the quirks
