Hi,

I would like to know how to bypass the part when it ask to insert Windows 98SE CD after installing a hardware. I know there's a way because a technician did it.

I take it that you do have a windows 98 cd, but don't want to be asked for it each time. If so then all you have to do is copy the win98 dir from the cd to your hard drive. and point windows 98 at it, after the first time it usually learns where it is and never ask again.

Thanks for replying
Yeah, you assumed right. I do have the Win98SE CD. I'm pretty sure the Win98 dir is in the harddrive but where is it? I think I remembered starting w/ the "F:\ """""" " something like that. That "F" is my CD drive directory.

So, it should be something like "C:\" ? Can you complete the directory ?

thanks

If you have copied it to your hard drive b4 and you put it in your root it should be c:\win98\

"usually remembers"

to make it remember forever there's a registry entry you can make...but since i'm not a win98 registry guru i'll have to point you to www.analogx.com there's a small free program there called banishcd that does the reg editing for you so you don't have to worry about doing it (or retyping it every time win98 asks for a cd)

The registry address is below if you want to do it manually

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\InstallLocationsMRU

The bits you need to copy across are all the .cab files.

If you ever reformat then just make a win98 directory on your C: drive before you install Windows. Then just go to your cdrom drive with the Windows disk head over to the win98 directory on there and type:

copy *.* c:/win98

That will copy the contents of that directory to the Win98 directory on the C drive. Once you install windows you'll never need the CD again. I'm not big on registry editing so I just do this trick but I also format my HD alot.

Well if Windows is already installed then you have to do some registry editing to tell it where to find the cab files. They did post how to do that in here also.

just copy the cd to the hard drive, and point windows that way in the registry and all will work. i do that on my computer and it saves a lot of time.
