Having a HUGE Problem....ok heres the situation...
I just purchased a MSI G2Pro...installation was a piece of cake...then i installed the 12.90 drivers...then i tried the 21.85 drivers to see if it can boost performance...here comes the problems...i first clicked my computer...don't see my cdrom drives...(i have a cd burner and a normal cdrom)...i tried to uninstall the 21.85 drivers, then reinstalled my 12.90 drivers...still no cdrom...then i d/l the detonator destroyer...uninstalled all my nvidia drivers...then i reinstalled my MSI drivers...then rebooted...still no cd rom...for some odd reason i right clicked my computer went to properties...under the performance tab...theres a window that i have never seen before under all the stuff your comp has...it says "Compatibility-mode paging reduces overall system performance"...under this line it says "Drive C is using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system"...then i went to press the detail button...something about real mode driver...

does anyone know what this means...i'm pretty sure its this problem thats causing my cdrom to not appear...can anyone plzzz help me....i can't even reinstall windows cuz i got no cdrom...its not the hardware...because everything was fine before 21.85...

Winbloze cure-all, Fdisk and reformat. Find a CD I guess.

yep you killed the system.

next time make sure you have all your ide cables secured because a loose one can cause this

reformat is the only cure

u could try this before you reformat, check your jumpers on your two cdroms, if they are jumped slave/master, jump each to CS and then reboot and see what happens, chances are that they will be picked up

it does get picked up by the bios...when i go in the bios it says the cd rom is there...but when i go into windows...theres not cdrom...and the system properties says this "Compatibility-mode paging reduces overall system performance"...under this line it says "Drive C is using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system"...help mEEEEE...plzzz

not mine but this could help:

possibilities are incompatible MBR driver overlays to work around BIOS HD addressing limitations (OnTrack, EZ-IDE, Disk Manager, MaxBlast, etc.), genuine custom drivers or controllers, unrecognized real-mode CD-ROM drivers, and other MBR code such as partition or multi-boot managers (unlikely to do this) and disk encryption (very likely to do this).
mine:
I would think that you could start by going basic, just start up with your CDrom as slave and your HD as master on one cable, sound and video, check your cable placements, make sure your cards and ram are seated properly ,get your disk utility from your HD web site, do a format and diag with that , reinstall and see. make all your change and then if all is well go with your HD on IDE 0(jumped as specs for stand alone) and both your CD/CDR on IDE 1 with either RW as master and CDR as slave or cable select CS with CDW pos 1 and CD pos 2 on cable. hope this helps, just stabing away here, it most likely is a driver XP thing and I think you just want to get back to getting a cd in ?

Run MSCONFIG, go to advanced and make sure the "force compatability mode access" is not checked. Hope this helps.

This happened to me twice. Hate it ! Had to reformat. If your BIOS sees the cd-rom drives, all you have to do is a format through DOS, or before Windows starts, no other way. I tried every possible way on my comp, checked my connections like 50 times, and still nothing. I hope you'll have more luck than I had, but if not, you know what to do ...
