whats a great card to buy online for around $140-$160. sorta an ati guy personally. but will get nvidia if it's better in performance and maybe cheaper. i need something that 's gonna give me great frames per a seconde for games like. rainbow six, umm counter strike, and some other fps and such.
For that price I think you can get a GeForce 6600Gt.

I got my X700pro for about that price, but the 6600gt performs better.
Also, which rainbow 6 and which CS? If you mean the old ones... you could probably run them great with onboard video, or a used $30 geforce3.

try to find a 6800np from that range so you might get a chance to get a softmod out of it or something.

Rainbow 6 and CS don't really take much of a video card, they can run on a video card from 1999, but you will really be glad you got a nice card in Farcry of Half Life 2.
I'd suggest suggest this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814133114
It will walk all over a 6600gt, and there is a chance you can softmod it to a full blown 6800gt.

If you have to hold loyalty to ATI, then the 9800PRO or X800 would give you the best bang for the ATI bucks. Nvidias do rule in the Speed catagory. I just bought an X600 for CWhits, in transit now. My reasoning is that X600XT is a good card for a really low budget project until I move to the ATI FireGL7100. I'm sticking with ATI on this system since I have the MSI RS480IL an ATI XPress board that I feel will work better with ATI cards, it has 3 monitor capability (1 for onboard video and 2 on the GFX card). You can fine several compares on Toms, Madshrimps and Anandtech that run these boards against each other.
