I'm finally building my first rig. I'm sick of Dells and I now have enough money to build my own. I have 2 friends who have built their own rigs so if I run into problems assembling it I can call them up. This rig is going to be used for gaming (counter-strike 1.6 maybe source in the future, WC3, Guild Wars, maybe BF2 or GTA:SA) and for doing schoolwork and listening to music/storing movies, buring DVDs. I've done A LOT of reading on these forums and other forums and have decided to overclock this beast. My budget is $1000 w/ shipping, can go a little over. I need everything basically, monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc. Here is what I have in mind as of right now, parts wise, if anybody has any suggestions, that'd be great. Most of this is from newegg. I can probably save some money on shipping if I look on pricewatch.

1) I'd suggest a fortron psu instead of that antec, www.actbuy.com or www.ewiz.com both have them at a good price (i went with actbuy as ewiz rma department got a bad raiting).
2)I'd go with a 3000+ if you're on a tight budget since you most likely won't notice while gaming and the $30 will be better spent elsewhere.
3)Don't get a sleeved bearing fan as the wear out faster than most fans.
4) Reconsider in getting a better keyboard, i'm not sure i'd be happy with a $6 one, especially if i was gaming on it. Try looking at a logitech.
5) Instead of speakers maybe headphones? I'm very satisfied with my sennheiser hd201 and for $22 on newegg it's great.

I second getting a different PSU, Antec's Smart Power series isn't the best for overclocking. I have a 500w Smart Power and a 480w True Power and the 480w has alot better output than the 500w. For about $20 more you could get a 550w True Power that would be a good choice for your system.

I will second the choice of headphones over speakers. Big, big difference in subtle sounds like footsteps.
Ebay has new Sennheiser PC150's for $37 ($55 on newegg) That way you get more of a surround experience instead of simple stereo.

Re: The monitor. CRTs have lasted forever for me. I have lost one out of 10 I've owned and the other nine are still working. If the refurb fixes the problem (if there was one) then I would say it's OK as long as you buy from a reputable company and read the fine print.

RE: Hard drive. $60 is a good deal for that drive if you can wait for the rebate. Make sure you get an 8 MB buffer and the right interface (SATA vs IDE) for your proposed configuration. You can use either right now but expanding/upgrading the system will be easier with SATA

The Hard drive is IDE, and for that price I'll have to take that over a SATA one. The deal isn't every week, so I may have to wait untill it goes on sale. Sometimes they have them for $70 or they have an 80 GB for $40. I could get 2 80 GB's and put them in RAID 0. I already have headphones but they're horrible. I have Sony behind the head headphones with a desk mic. I use these currently. I guess I could get new headphones and then just wait until I have money for speakers. Doesn't the 3200+ Venice have a multiplier of 10 as its highest and the 3000+ has a mutliplier of 9 as its highest? In theory wouldn't I get a better oc with the 3200+, but would the performace gain be noticable (like you said)? I'll look into a different PSU also.

EDIT: How's this PSU
