i was browsing through the SD cards in newegg and i realized i had no way of really knowing what speed i'm getting with each card or how to compare them other than by brand. most of them say "hi-speed" or use different terms for speed like "60X" "9mb/sex max transfer" and "3mb/sec consistent read speed" (notice the "read" there with the absence of "write").

So how can i know which one to buy?

I find Tigerdirect is pretty good with giving you the speeds. You could check the manufacturer's site as well.

as you've already seen, you'll have to pay attention to whether they are stating read speeds.

What device are you using this with?

what digital camera?

if you capture in JPG at anything under 2mp, write speed isn't a huge issue. Anything higher, and I would recommend you get faster rated memory.

I would go for some decent 40x. I've used 8x and it's pretty damn slow (cam was snapping 1.5-1.6mb shots).
