Hey guys. I wanted to know what are the best games to play for small LAN's. I'm throwing one with my family(cusions/friends) and I wanted to know what games would be fun for everyone ~8 people.
So far:
Need for Speed Underground 2
Age of Empires II
Counter-Strike
Warcraft III
Starcraft
Suggest away. Include games that I already listed.

UT, CS, HL2 DM, Quake, Wolfenstein.
Any FPS are the best for lans. With less people just play on smaller maps.
You should rock some Rainbow 6. It's great for a small group, 'cause it's easier to work in a team. Diablo II is good too, 'cause you can all get together and go on a huge Hell run! That's great fun.

Future LAN's will probably include:
HL2 DM
CS:S
BF2
It depends on my buddies... they tend to like different games, and not everybody owns the same thing... to that can make things a little difficult.
Unreal Tournament 2003 all the way
Bf2 WOOTzors!! I don't care if ppl complain, and Wc3 TFT is much better.

Hell yes.
Quake 2 is good for all the crazy mods out there, and Alien vs Predator has to be my favorite LAN game ever. I would always play as alien and have the marines shaking in their boots! One time I heard my buddy Kenny sitting across from me tracking me with his motion detector, so I crawled up on the ceiling and stayed perfectly still. I watch him sweeping left and right with his flashlight as he walks right under me, then I dropped down and ate his head from behind!! I've never seen somebody jump so high out of their chair :p

At a friend's LAN quite awhile ago (back when I still played CS, and liked it) we were playing Assault, and he was on the Terrorist side. Well, we kept hopping in the vent, and he'd spray it from one end to the other w/ the AK. Well, I just so happened to be sitting under a heating duct in his basement. Well, about midway through one of the rounds, I reached up and tapped it to make that signature sound. Well, he started spraying the vent in the game! It was absolutely hilarious!

good suggestions, although I'm not big on RTS games they work well for LANs. Any good FPS will work well for you as well. I don't know about BF2 because I can't get bots to come up as there isn't a coop mode as there was in the original.

UT2004 mod Alien Swarm. Co-op mod with your squad against an endless swarm of aliens. So much fun.

My friends and I play ravenshield at lans. Its pretty fun, becuase you can do misisons as a team, and also terrorist hunts. Also, Far Cry isnt bad.

we play bf2, with that few people though it works well if you agree not to use tanks

Gloom and Action quake2, damn those were fun times.
My suggestion might not be a popular one, but damned if its not fun.... Doom2 DM on map1 :D

LOL yeah I remember Action q2, it was CS before there was CS :D
QPong and Devastation were two of my favs. Somebody made a Pong for HL2 (http://www.fileplanet.com/153113/150000/fileinfo/Half-Life-2---PongSource-v0.8). Devastation was with two mechs vs everyone else. You find these powercubes to 'pick up' the mech, and once you're in you have 1000 health and armor, plus either dual rocket launchers or dual chainguns :p

AQ2 = Cs before CS :p
Gloom = NS before NS :p
I would _love_ to play gloom on the source engine. :D

****ing YES. I LOVE oldschool Doom engine games (preferable Doom 2 32player DM with chainsaw LMFAO)
Another great game is Unreal Tournament original. Halo is good, and then of course CS, TS, and other HL/HL2 based games.

Alien vs Predator had a cool bunker level where you just fend off hundreds of aliens and predaliens, that was hillarious single player.

Dont think anyone has mentioned COD:OU. Its great with 6 or 8 players on the smaller maps.

We just drop COD:uo from our LAN group and I wish it didn't. But yes its great on the smaller maps.

SWAT 4 is a very, very fun LAN game. Last lan we had about 8 people playing it. Co-op fell appart pretty quickly as everyone would just taser each other. That's when you play against each other. We played that for most of the LAN. VIP was by far the funnest game mode.

Definately gotta love AvP2, I had the best times with that one.
Had a blast with Starcraft and both Serious Sams' too :)

Anyone remember the old game Scorched Earth? Well there is a newer one called Scorched 3D that is LAN/internet capable. I haven't played it with anyone else, but I know it could be lots of fun. :D

Novaligic's Black Hawk Down is my favorite
There is always games like Diablo2, neverwinter nights and ice wind dale :p
Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast is lots of fun on small LANs. And already mentioned Jedi Academy is much fun as well.
StarCraft would do it for people who don't like FPS's much. BTW I got a small LAN coming up as well :D
halo, CS, starcraft, alpha centurai, total annihaltation, Command and conquer (any of them)... all good games

We Tried Mechwarior 3 at a LAN once. It didn't go over too well, but I still think that game has promise.
Oh, we once played Worms Armageddon for an entire LAN. Yes, you only need one computer for that game, but it's still silly with 6.

I don't know if its already been mentioned, but Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is an excellent game for a small LAN. Its free to download and has been out for a while. It can run on most systems, nice to know if everyone doesn't have a 7800GTX in their pc :p
