lol...i was over at a friends and he fell asleep ....so i tested out his cooling capacity...and low and behold...<45C after a few hours...

so i loaded on folding and snuck in into processes....hehe....i don't think hes noticed yet :)

for all of u people that may think this is wrong...he has a 1.4 t-bird and he only uses the thing for internet browsing and chat

if thats not wrong...i dun know what is :D

Don't tell him cause he probably won't want it or maybe just tell him all about it and what he can acheive and then just ask him to fold for you or in his own name!!!!

That's cool. Two 1.2 tbirds can eat a lot of protein in a week. :D

if your cpu isnt running at 100% 24-7 then why even have one. hehe.

That's cool. I had to cut back the fsb on my main machine for now so it's good to see the power being made up.:D Had a bunch of fans cooling it and was going deaf. Went from 1530 or something back to 1400 on a 1.0. Cut the voltage way back too and I hope it can handle the folding client. So far so good and the temps are waaaay down while EM still says 100%. If this holds out I'll keep the lower speed and my hearing ;). But it's a few less wu's per day. Of course the noise thing should be fixed with a shipment of fans(large and quiet) that should arrive today. :D

Two 1.2 Tbirds is real cool for F@H!
I have my 1.2 @ 1.33 and folding not 24/7 I just can't stand the noise at night but all day long I'm folding...
Even my K6-III 400 @ 458 MHz is folding! all day long

The guy came to pick his comp up today (the other Athlon 1.2) he came early I don't know why I asked if he would like to fold for us and he said he'd check out the websites and phone me with a decision!!!

Its not that big a decision just as long as he doesn't mind the noise of the fans (its not in his bedroom so it should be ok)!!
And the power bills (its up to him if he leaves it on 24/7) but what the heck pcs don't chew up a lot of power!!

Hi Mercury. It's similar to Seti@Home in that it is a distributed computing project, but the end goal is a bit different. Instead of searching for aliens Folding@Home is about discovering the way that a Protein folds in order to find out more about our genetic structures. The hope is that once the ability to discover how various proteins fold we can find out how they misfold. I am doing a poor job of explaining this but a very good place to check this out would be at the Stanford Folding@Home site. There are technical articles, etc. explaining the project and it's goal and why we need so much computing power to perform this task.
Here's the link for some more info-

Hope that helps. :)

Thx for letting me know what it is...then i think i dwl and try it on my pc..but the file is so small how can it need so much of processing power???

well considering i have a mini Server @ home this will be a flash then LOL !

The client itself is very small, but the calculations are very comp. intense. The client will download work from Stanford, perform the necessary calculations and then send the work back to Stanford. The wu's are usually 100 frames and there are usually 500,000 steps that need to be completed before the work can be returned. The time it takes to complete these steps depends on how complicated the protein is that we're working on and on the speed of the computer performing the calculations. Once completed and the work is returned the client is then sent more work to complete, and so on.

Hi people well i've noticed two versiosn of the prog...well as maybe guys will knoe internet access in Mlebourne is expensive so i dwl the screensaver one so i don't need to be connected to do the job..will it afect the job done or not...or maybe i can transfer the work trough the client version...
well it will be a big challenge as i really wanna know the processing power of my AMD

The screensaver doesn't work right for a lot of people. If it does, great. One thing. Exit the screensaver. Open the client.cfg and check to be sure that it put your name in there. The screensaver often ignores the name you provide and uses the default client name which is cs-sdk. You will have to manually edit the client.cfg to fix it with notepad or ultraedit (do not convert to DOS format). Not wordpad. If you're folding for the team then where it says email=cs-sdk replace cs-sdk with
yourname(www.overclockers.com)
Then restart the client and it should give you credit. The stats usually take a day or so after you return the first wu for it to show up. Then they are updated every three hours.
Durons and Athlons rock in folding and genome! :D
