View Full Version : booting with win2k pro CD.
why cant my system boot from the win2k pro cd? the help .txt files say the machine can boot using the CD but mine cant. yes, i have set the cd-rom unity as the first one.
thanks.
If your bios supports booting from cd, then you should be greeted with a press any key to boot from CD message
check your cd to see if it can create the setup/boot disks (4 of them), if it can't you are missing some parts of the cd you need to be able to boot from it
I encountered a cd like this once, but it was a borrowed copy (couldn't find mine readily, and needed to make the setup disks) and I don't think it was legit..

you have to set the boot sequence in the bios

I had problems doing that on a fresh drive...if you haven't formatted it yet, you might want to do that.
also check and make sure that your bios does not require, in addition to 1st boot order, that you have a selection for " boot other device|enable"
it must only be some problem with the CD. i got another one (W2K server) and it booted fine. ill try to get another one, thanks.
Unfortunately, my Windows2000 CD isn't bootable. Its an MSDN version.
