Just like the subject says, I need some advice on overclocking my P3 550E. Mainly, I need to now what I can or should overclock it to. Oddly enough, my multiplier is not locked, but I don't know if I should mess with it. And my pc always says "CPU unworkable or has been changed" and stops and I have to press f1 to finish booting my computer and I was wondering if anybody knew a way around that(My mobo uses softswitch II). I have it oced to 605 Mhz right now just to see how it works and I don't have any problems. And one last thing, in MBM5 and other programs all my temps show 32, no matter what, but in the bios it shows the temp accurately, but I don't know what the temp should be.
So many questions. I hope you guys can help me out a little.

An unlocked intel, wow never heard of that. to fix your unusable CPU prob @ startup, go into your BIOS in the softswitchII menu you should see speed error hold or somthing to that nature set this to dissable and that should fix your prob. Average O/C for your chip is 676 according to the CPU database, however all of thoes are locked you might get better, as far as how far you can O/C it, untill you start running unstable, or your temp's get above around 40-45c load. One more thing how do you know your chip is unlocked?

I know the multiplier is unlocked because I left the FSB speed the same and changed the multiplier and the CPU speed changed accordingly.

I think I have an 550eb... with that it maxed around 650MHz

I had the same combo but my one was locked. I easy got to 825mhz/150fsb at less than the default voltage! If you get it to that, then the high memory bandwidth is awesome especailly with that board. The trouble that I found was the BE6 is very fussy with the memory modules even with PC150 and some PC133 didnt even work or make it to 133mhz. So play around with different modules, then are cheap enough now so take advantage.

What video card did you use?

Sorry I meant 'mircofire'.
But thats a cool card anyway. Have you had any problems with it? I had to return my 32mb ddr LE 2 times... they broke all of the sudden one time I was just rebooting and it never worked again.

about your temps, run a cpu-intensive program (a complex game or sumthing...), and see if your temps go up considerably
if not, either your temp sensor is wrong, or the temperature you're looking at is the motherboard temp.

I ran the quake 3 demo for a while, and my cpu temp didn't even go up 2 degrees, but my mainboard temp went up 4 degrees. Does that sound right? I can't tell if the sensors aren't working or if that's really what my temps are. Right now I'm only oced from 550 to 605 because I don't trust my cooling. My cpu temp is usually about 30 degrees. Does that sound right?
