This might sound stupid but I just had an idea.
I have a SB Live X-Gamer 5.1 sound card, also my motherboard has onboard audio. I recently got a computer case with front panel USB, Spearker, and Mic plug-ins. I was wondering if it would be possible to have both my SB X-Gamer and onboard audio working at the same time. That way I can keep my speakers plugged into the SB X-gamer and then plug the front panel into the onboard audio so I can plug my headphones in and never have to get behind my computer to do so.
Yeah I wouldn't have as great sound.. but I ususally only plug in my headphones to chat online through dialpad or Roger Wilco

Thanks for any help you can provide

Not really sure. Might have a driver conflict considering you'd have the pci sound and onboard sound. Of course computers can work with 2 vid cards so maybe it won't be a problem. I believe someone was able to get AGP video and onboard video to work at the same time so perhaps sound can work the same way.

For a month or so I had an old SB16 and an SBLive working together (somewhat) happily. The problem was you had to set each program to choose a specific soundcard, no app or game I had would use both at once nor would they automatically choose. On the rare case when the program did make a choice it made the wrong one!:(

The easiest way was to set up the one you wanted to be the "preferred device" and then set "use preferred device only" in the MultiMedia control panel.

I was attempting to to play MIDI info to my soundbox at the same time I recorded the output. It worked ok, but it was such a pain in the rear I just went and got a MIDI controller instead after a little while. Much easier.

Onboard plus AGP video is much easier to set up, IMHOP:D

cool thanks for the info..

I was gonna use SB X-Gamer for my games and use the onboard for Roger Wilco (communication)

That's why they released the Platinum SB Live series so you wouldn't have to sweat this.
