anyways here i am thinking..probably not a good thing but anyways i have 2x512mb viking ram one stick is pc2100 and one is pc2700
the pc2100's timings are as follows 2.5-3-3-6 @ 133mhz
the pc2700's timings are as follows 2.0-3-3-g @ 133mhz
alright i dont know if thats good or not and i cant change the timings
with both sticks in i can oc a stable 2.48 and its a P4A 2.0
but when i have a single stick in it can oc to about 2.4 stable why so? please explain

Which stick is it that you used when getting 2.4 stable? Have you tried the other? Im not sure really what to suggest but hopefully a more experienced member can answer your question.

What kind of system are they going into? The first thing that comes to mind is that if you are putting the PC2100 in by itself it could some how limit the overclock, but that doesn't seem very likely. The only other thing that I can think of is that maybe it is doing better with 2 because it is dual channel, which doesn't make much sense since I think you need a matched set to utilize that.
Also, if you aren't doing identical stability testing, it could be that the setup with 2 sticks would have failed but wasn't tested enough, and the second setup just happened to fail earlier along in the process.

well my system is
mobo: gigabyte 8vm533m (im at school not sure if this is the right model# or not) aka gigabyte 2004 rz
cpu: P4A 2.0Ghz
PSU: its a 300 watt
and ive tried both modules seperatly both in the slot closest to the cpu

must i bump again?!?!
I think it's just the nature of the beast. Ram is a leading factor in your overclock. A single stick will o/c different than dual sticks. Dual channel will o/c different from single. 2 sticks of 256mb will o/c different than 2 512's. Then you have ratings, timings, and voltage to think about.

Have you benched using Sisoft Sandra to see if that 80MHz overclock on your cpu makes that big of a difference? If both sticks are working I would leave them in. Hey 80MHz more never hurt anything.
