I just got a X850Xt, i upgraded from a 9600xt.

It seems that while games play better, the overall system performance in 2d modes had worsened. i mean firefox used to open instantly with the 9600xt. Now it takes 6-11 seconds. same with almost all programs.

at first i thought it may have been a driver conflict so i used driver cleaner. But it didnt help, then i reformateed windows. I get the same problem. Thogh when I put in my 9600Xt. It is fast again.

I am getting like crahes out of BF2 from desktop.

also note. This is my 2nd X850XT. same problem on both and i have tried both drivers in the 5.6 varients/

I upgraded my memeory as i though this was the problem with the 1st card. i went fri 2x256 of OCZ pc4200, Now I have OCZ pc420o in 2x512mb kit.

Okay, you already reformated. I think your imagining things :P

I can't see how the programs opening slower problem could have anything to do with the video card. Crashing to desktop is a somewhat common problem with BF2. I have had it happen ocsionaly, but my friend has it happen nearly every time he plays the game.

I've seen the EXACT same thing with 6800 nvidias.

/guy use to work for nvidia
got fired.
now works @ ati :(

somebodies not making good drivers out there.....

& it seems to be no one in specific.

What about going with an X800 instead of the x850?

I was thinking about somthing of a lesser card.

maybe a 6600gt or a 6800.

maybe the x850xt was just to darn powerfull for my pc.

Thats uncalled for. It sounds like a hardware conflict. Maybe you need to re-prioritize your IRQs?

Maybe your PSU is having trouble powering the X850XT? If the 9600XT works fine it seems like that could have something to do with it.

well its a 550watt.

I have almost Perfect rails.

The antec 550W has

2 36gb raptors in raid 0
2 40gb WD HDD
1 Lite on DVD burner.
a floppy drive.

Then I have my 4 fans connected through Molex.

Then my 2.4c, OCZ memeory, Sound card and then the Video card.

I'm still thinking its a driver problem. Try using drivers other than ATi's official (Omega or something of the likes)

Good idea.

Ok, I don't think your PSU is the problem, onto the next suggestion.

cant be hardware conflict, rule that out
cant be PSU cuz you said its perfect, rule that out

driver issue, go to the website and download it from there only, it should solved it ...

but remove the driver first before you reboot it and install it again when it ask...

or you got a glitchie one ..

i highly doubt its the card but its a possibility..... did u check the heat of the card?

I can almost guarentee it's a driver problem.

I just don't know if it lies in the irq priority or whatnot.

or if it's just some crappy drivers that came out.

I'm going to place my bets on it being CCC's fault.

Try the omega drivers.

some one has a brain, yes use driver clean and re-install drivers, try a Defrag as well.

I think its the drivers.... Get Driver Cleaner or get Omega Drivers(they come in the download) and erase ANYTHING which says ATi on it.

Just a thought....do you have external power connected to the card? (molex connection) I know that the 9800pro won't even boot without it, but I'm pretty sure that the 6800 series will boot, but run at low clock speeds.

My bets are on a driver conflict. Either this or you have recentally aquired some sort of malware.
