Glaciator II Specifications Quoted From Website

Glaciator II features an increase in Sink – To – Air performance from 0.18 C/W to 0.16 C/W --- a distinguishing performance at less than 14 cubic. inches of sink volume (inclusive of the fan) and at significantly less airflow levels than what is required by other high performance heat sinks to achieve results. Positioned solidly at top performance levels, MTS's proprietary technology allows for leveraging performance without resorting to loud, over speed fans to achieve results. Glaciator II is the lowest cost low noise high performance heat sink available on the market today.

NOTE: retails at the same price as Glaciator 1

I'll be interested in seeing a formal comparison of new vs. old on this site. I wonder what was changed? It looks basically the same but looking at the pic it seems the bottom edge has been carved out a bit in the shape of an "L". That's the only visible difference I can see. The weight is down from 680 to 615 grams a 10% reduction but it still weighs 1.35 pounds. I can't tell by the specs if the fan was changed. It would be cool if they could make it even quieter. I realize its already much quieter than the Delta 7000 rpm but of the seven 80mm fans in my case the Glaciator's fan is still the loudest.

I hope a future revision of the Glaciator changes the clip to use all 3 socket pegs on each side of the socket such that the restriction on moving the PC can be lifted. I realize using the 4 holes in the motherboard is the most secure but I not too big on the idea of having to remove my motherboard everytime I want to remove the heatsink.

Actually, you only have to remove the motherboard the first time you install it most of the time. Both of the HSFs I have are 4 hole mount (Swifty and Zalman). The Swifty could use some engineering help from Zalman, and I ended up cutting the mobo pan under the processor when I had it in my everyday change PC, the Zalman is now in the everyday change PC and it can be mounted/unmounted without taking the motherboard out (minus the first time of course). Problem with the Swifty is that those stand offs are hard to get tight enough that they won't move when you try to unscrew the heatsink.
Oh well.
Peace
John

I JUST ordered my Glaciator about a day ago. Received the shipping confirmation yesterday.

I sent an e-mail to MTS to see if they may have shipped me the Glaciator II or if I can get it in place of the Glaciator on it's way to my house.

I know technology is constantly being improved, but come on, outdated even before I get it... :(

I'll let you know what happens...

When you get your Glaciator II just send it on over to me and I'll be happy to do a side by side comparison with my old Glaciator :)

Well. I just received a reply from MTS regarding the "Glaciator" that I ordered the other day. They say that they shipped me the new product :D .

So, I'll put that baby on my T-Bird and let you know how she does.
