Alright guys, I am running a NVidia GeForce 2 MX/MX 400 32mb on my Pentium 4 1.7ghz. I also downloaded that Detanator XP driver and it said it was supposed to increase performace by 30%-50%, which I have yet to see.
How do you go about overclocking the graphics card, and what are it's safe limits? Thanks.

i dont think that drivers will ever give you 20-30 % increase right off the bat, despite what manufacturers say.
try Powerstrip, its downloadable from lotsa places
and depending on your manufacturers ram chips
you should be able to get 220 on the GPU and 200 on the memory
I had a no name GeForce 2 MX card with 32 Mb of ram. It came with a utility to over clock the card. I played I played with it a bit. My card was running the default 175 Mhz...I took it to 200 with no problem. I have since upgraded to another no name GeForce 2 MX 400 card with 64 Mb of ram. It did not come with the utility so I tried using the old one...Works fine. I did notice that on my new card the default is 200 Mhz core and 333 ram. I took the card to 240 and 370 without any problems. I ran Wintune before and after. My Open GL was 191 at the factory settings and 231 at the overclocked settings. I had no video problems but I did notice that my video card temps went from 51 to 59 C using my Digi Doc 5.

Where can I find some of these utilities at? I looked around a bit on my system and haven't been able to find a whole lot. Thanks for the help.

Alright, before the test I was hitting 2415 on 3dMark2001. I put my GPU up to 199.66 and my Mem. up to 199.66, and I was able to hit 2836 with the display prog on, and another prog running. So far so good. I will post results of the second test after I am done.

Alright, I put it to 220 and 200 and was able to hit a 2886. I went to overclock it some more, but it didn't work so well. Thanks for the help.

I'm just wondering... if I shut down Powerstrip, will the settings on my PNY GeForce MX400 vid card go back to default????
I can get mine to 235/222 (I havn't tried higher). I have a Geforce2 MX 400 w/ 5ns RAM. what mhz is 5ns rated at?
here are my Quake3 1.30 demo4 benchmarks:
1024x768x32 ALL OPTIONS ON HIGHEST:
235/222 - 53.4fps
235/222 - 44.9fps (with Anistropic Filtering On)
Default speeds:
200/184 - 34.3fps (with Anistropic Filtering On)
200/184 - 41.1fps
Default speed of most Geforce2 MX 400 cards:
200/166 - 38.3fps w/o Anistropic Filtering
Not too shabby. I'm gonna try for 60fps! :) w00t w00t!
