I have just purchased the Antec case 1030SX B (alienware case) and I want to mod it out with a custom paint job. One problem,??Not sure what type of paint to use on it.
Need help to get that same look alienware offers.
Do I need to use primer first, or is the surface good to paint right on. Help please!!!

Sand it down till its real smooth and then primer it with sandable primer, sand that and use Plasti-kote Car paint (auto parts store). I don't have the link handy (I'm at work) but there's a GREAT guide on another site, I'm sure someone will link it in the next few minutes. I did it and it works like a champ, my case is now a beautiful 'Truck and Sport Utility Black'.
Peace

I used Rustoleum products. Here's what I did:
You sand your case's paint off (Or at least sand alot of it off. I got mine all the way down to the metal in most parts. Use an orbital sander with 150 to 220 grit sandpaper.).
Then take 250 to 300 grit paper and sand it all down as smooth as you can possibly get it with that grit.
Then wipe it down with a wet paper towel and let it dry. Apply Rustoleum Automotive Primer.
Sand it down with 220 grit paint sandpaper (It's a special sandpaper used for sanding between paint coats, it has a black and white tiger stripe pattern).
Apply a second coat of primer, then sand it again (Wipe it down with a wet paper towel and let it dry between each coat of primer and paint).
Apply at LEAST 3 coats of paint (You'll need 2 cans, minimum), sanding between each coat.
Let each coat of primer dry for at least 8 hours, and let each coat of paint dry for at least 6 hours.
When you get your final coat of paint on, let it dry for a full 24 hours.
If you want a truely stunning gloss finish, use a clear coat. Apply 2 coats if you can, but do NOT sand between clearcoats, or between your final coat of paint and your first coat of clearcoat. I painted my case matte black, so a clearcoat was out of the question for me.
Let each coat of clearcoat dry for 10 hours, and let your final coat dry for another 24 hours.
The minimum for making your case look good is 1 coat of primer, and 2 coats of paint. You SHOULD do at least 2 coats of primer and 3 coats of paint (which is what I did). You COULD do 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of paint, and 2 coats of clearcoat.
Also, if you use a white primer, your finished paint job will look brighter (Use white primer for white paint, tan paint, or any other light color). If you're painting your case a darker color, like black, brown, maroon, or emerald green, use a black primer.
You might wanna consider buffing it after the clear is on as well.

You know those cars that have paint jobs where if you look at 'em from one direction they're one color and if you look at em from another they're a different color? You think that could be done with a case....and like how much do you guys think that would cost? That would be pimp.

if you want the color to chage for cheap go with Dupli-Color. It`s $20.00 for a set and it looks really sweet. I used it on mine for the best look do 3 coats primer, 5 coats paint and 2 coats of clear.
It will cost you bout $80 to do the whole case.
