I bought an AMD 1ghz on an ASUS a7a266, There are jumpers on the board to help with overclocking, but I dont know the first thing about overclocking. SO what should I do? Do i need a better fan than the one that came with my chip? What should I change in the BIOS? What should I change on the board? If anyone could tell me how, or at least a page that explains this, I would be very appreciative.
P.S. How do I identify my chip? And what will that help me with?

chances are you will need a better heatsink and fan, i would go for the SK6 abecaus eit is the best but unless you are deaf you should get a quieter fan. a cpu speed is made up of the multiplier multiplied by the front side bus speed yours will be 10 x 100 (the front side bus being 100), the simplest and easyest way to overclock is change the multiplier (to 10.5 or 11, giving you 1050 or 1100) unfortunatly this cannot be done with out a litytle modification to the chip itself, the 'pencil trick' as it is called. i will not tell you how to do this beacuse it is hard to explain without pictures, someone may be able to tell you where to go for a guide. set the front side bus speed at 110MHz making your cpu run at 1100 MHz (check your manual for how to do this) that is the first step in overclocking, keep an eye on the temps!

My Bus speed is 266 so would that change it at all?

ah, i thought it was 100(200 DDr) in the bios it wil show as 133 beacuse amd motherboards have DDR technology even if you dont use DDR memory, your cpu speed is 7.5x133 = 1000MHz set the front side bus to 140 and you get 1050, a small overclock but still an overclock, jioin up your level one bridges with a pencil to ulock the cpu

First pencil in the L1 bridges as overclocker suggests.
I have the A7A266 also and the manual does a good job explaining how to switch to jumper mode and how to change the multiplier and fsb settings.
