would a slow hard drive slow me down alot?

I have a 5gb slow hard drive and a 40gb ata133 hd and I wanna use the slow one to install os on and the fast one for games, would my games still be slow because windows is on the slow drive?

Yes, its best to install OS to a fast drive as it is being accessed ALL the time.

i really wouldent rec doing tht .. cuz i did something similar and ended up buying a 120gb ... my prob was the OS hdd was out of space .. youd be suprised how much space xp takes up ..

ya, you really dont want xp on a slow hard drive. It'll really slow the whole computer down in general

XP should have priority, not games. It makes a much bigger differance if the OS is on a fast drive then games.

Games will load faster if on the fast drive, however if most programs and Windows XP are on the slower drive it will slow things down. I would have all programs and the OS on the faster drive and just use the slower one for storage, to be honest.

use the 40GB as your main and the 5GB as a storage drive.

Just get another HDD. There cheap these days. And 5 gig's really won't do you much. I had a slow HDD and now I upgraded to a SATA and WOW. Everything load's much quicker in general. Even the boot time is decreased by alot because of the slow spin up time of the old HDD.

That 5gb drive is likely an ata66 which will slow everything down.

Agree that a 5gb HDD being a bit small these days. Many newer games require more
disk space than that just for install.

My preference is to have the OS and games installed on my Raptor, and the 200gb Barracuda for storage.

Thanks for the replys, itried it and everything loading from windows is slow and most games are fine though. I'll get another drive.
