ok...if you've seen my last post...you'll know that my comp is pretty FUC*ED up...so my only bet is a reformat...but one question...after i reformat...i got back to c:\...do i partition there or do i reboot and use my startup disk and then partition??... and oh ya...whats the command for partitioning??...haha...
I would use a boot disk to reformat, and then FDISK it. Fdisk is the partiton program you're thinking of. It is also startlingly difficult to use, I think. Very un-user freindly. But it's built in, so I use it.:)

make sure you have fdisk.exe on your startup disk....
run it by typing the file name on the cp. then choose "Y" when prompted to support high capacity disk.
you will be then seeing the Menu: your objective here is to make a primary partition ( 100% if you plan not to use multiple partition ). That will be menu no. 1. If you decide to have multiple partition, just set the partition size. And the remaining part should be set as extended partition... ( and also as your logical drive ).
btw, The menu is very self-explanatory.... good luck.
Link had it right on the head there... but formatting before the fdisk is really pointless to my knowledge. You will have to format after you partition it anyways... so why do it twice?
That's exactly what I was thinking. FDISKing a disk will kill the partitions, and then you have to format all the partitions. FDISK first, then FORMAT. Or, what I always do... Just FORMAT.
