View Full Version : reformat harddrive under win2k
How do you do it? How do you get to the c: prompt? I want to get rid of win2k and install win98. New machine, nothing else on. Thx!
if you don't have dos and do know what U are doing the best way for U would be to go to your drive manufacturer and download their drive utility which all of them have free, these programs will reformat fine for u

Make a dos boot floppy with fdisk on it. Make sure to have the 98 setup floppies too. I think you can install 98 from dos as long as you have an ide cd-rom.
Hmm, Dammit I hate when I forget stuff. I forget the transfer system line. I would say, make a dos boot floppy, boot it, fdisk your HDD, then transfer the system to the HDD. Finally boot dos then run setup. Some please verify this, it's been a while since I installed 98.

format c:/s
The above steps will do....:)
Easiest way is to get a Win98 startup disk. Boot with the disk installed and then use fdisk to delete the partition. You must choose (Ithink its #3) delete non-dos partition. Then run fdiskto partition and format the drive to Windows 98. Why would you want to go from Win2000 to Win98 anyways? Seems like a step backwards.

Weeeeeel, me be newby and just built new machine (ecs k7s5a mobo, 1400tb, 512crucial, 3d proph kyroII...) and doing the flash bios thingie was simplier under win98. Now, happily, I return to win2k. BTW, would you know, do the knew bios setting prevent you from accessing the bios setup during the win98 bootup? Thx! -F.
