I see webhost advertising E-ide hd powered servers. WTH is e-ide?

Also how much faster is SATA than IDE133? like 3x right?

So is that faster than sata or no?

did you read the link? No its still IDE, just a little faster. SATA > IDE and will always be

ooh fancy, E-IDE sounds pretty sweet,

I will just state that as of now, any speed increase provided by SATA over IDE is next to nil. SATA1's max is 150MB/s vs 133MB/s of IDE. The limiting factor is not the interface but the drives themselves. No hard drive today can flood an IDE interface.

sata ownz IDE

sata ownz IDE

Care to offer up some facts to back up your broad statement?

I'm going to change my screenname to "IDE and SATA are equal in speeds there are no differences" so people stop asking about it.

SATA is a type of IDE. You guys are comparing SATA and PATA. SATA I supports bursts to 150MB/s. Since the fastest IDE drives around (Raptors) can only push ~75MB/s we can safely say that both (P)ATA-133 and SATA-150 are more bandwidth then we need.

So really sata isnt a whole lot faster than ide?
Damn that sucks!

The SATA bus is faster. More data can transfer from the little connector on your motherboard to your processor or whatever. NO hard drive, SATA or PATA currently push out enough data to use the extra speed.

Its like being on a super highway where you could drive 100mph but your car can only drive 50mph.

So if I get a fast sata hd only then will i see a big diffrence.....

E-IDE was a fancy term a long time ago! and as stated, SATA and PATA are both IDE...so people who say SATA ownz / > IDE....heh...lots of credibility coming from that statement!
SATA offers ZERO improvement in terms of performance, the reason modern SATA drives are performing better than older PATA drives are.....HOLD YOUR BREATH!!....THEY'RE NEWER DRIVES!!!! Interface has nothing to do with thier spindle speed, cache, controller design (the import part atleast), platters, etc.

Hmm, I thought SATA's were a whole lot quiter than PATA drives. Another selling point is the thinner wire that results in better airflow than that of a system that uses ribbon ide cables.

Even then, the interface doesn't matter. The fastest SATA drive out there is the Raptor, and as people have said, it doesn't go much about 75mb/s. A Raptor is actually an IDE drive with an SATA adapter anyway. Right now, it doesn't make a difference.

The only time when it might is with a device like the Gigabyte iRAM that everyone is talking about, and even then, the SATA controller was limited by the PCI bandwidth.

I buy SATA drives because of the convenience of the cabling and better upgradability.

The 10,000 rpm seagates are fast as the raptors. I dont have the ratings on hand. There out there but hard as hell to get ahold of!!

Those are SCSI interface, though, which is a whole different story. SCSI drives top out at 15K RPM, so yeah, they can be faster. The Raptor still does pretty good, though.
