moving mail from outlook exp to outlook 2003

on an old computer running win98se with outlook express i am trying to move all the mail to a new computer with windows XP ofice 2003.
i tried to export with outlook express through a network connection that works. when i try to inport it doesn't reconize it

Open Outlook 2003 | File-->Select 'Import and Export' to import your messages and Contacts from OE into OL2003.

i tried that but it didnot work

Create a backup using the store folder in your old PC... OE | Tools | Options | 'Maintenance' tab | 'Store Folder' button. Create a dummy account in OE6 on the new PC | Import messages to the new PC (using OE6) over the network from the store folder on the old PC | Import the messages from OE6 on the new PC to OL2003 on the new PC.
