Alright, I've been reading the forums here for a few weeks now and decided to join because I have a few questions of my own. First of all, I got a P4 3.2ghz prescott off of Pricewatch for a pretty cheap price and paired it up with Asus P4C800-E mobo. I got the prescott because of its larger cache, and I heard it had some decent oc capabilities.
Anyhow, I have it running decently right now @ 3.51 ghz with 1.45 vcore.
Onto my question. I mounted a copper HSF onto the cpu with AS5 and have more than enough case ventelation (8 fans altogether) My problem is, the computer is really damn loud. I cut out all of the fan grills, and had only a small improvement. Temps are alright (41 idle/53 load).
I was wondering if purchasing a watercooling setup would help make things cooler and quiter. If so, what would you guys recommend for a setup under $200? Should the waterblocks be made out of any special material, and what size tubing would you recommend?
Thanks in advance ;)
Well, one of the major reasons peopel get into water cooling, besides the cooling capacity is the ability to build a pretty quiet system (at least compared to similar cooling on air).
One question, how much of yoru machine are you looking to WC? just teh CPU? or GPU as well?

Ideally, I would like to cool both, but I would be satisfied with just the cpu being watercooled.

Block: MCW6002 (http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcw6002.asp)
Pump: MCP350 (http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcp350.asp)
Radiator: 1977 Pontiac bonneville (with a/c) heatercore (sticky on how to mod it is in the sticky section) + shroud (can be home made) + 2x120mm fans of choice
Tubing: 7/16" ID with 3/32" wall can be had at www.mcmaster.com
(optional) GPU block: Danger Den Maze 4 (http://www.dangerdenstore.com/product.php?productid=150&cat=48&page=1)
Thats pretty much the best you can get on that budget, don't forget the hose clamps which you can get at any home depot, ace or lowes.
What sewer said (i think he has that on a macro...)

are there any packages I could get that would include all I needed out of the box? I wouldn't mind spending up to $400, but the lower the price the better

BeKonstructive: no there are not, however if you have up to $400 I would recommend you go with the Swiftech Storm (www.swiftnets.com/products/storm.asp) instead of the MCW6002 because its more expensive but performs better. Also for the MCP350 you will need an adapter to go from 3/8" to 1/2" so that the 7/16" tubing fits over it.
Jas: no I have the links memorized (except danger den)
PS: WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!
WAY better off ordering the seperate parts.

What's with the 7/16" tubing instead of just 1/2"?
Spending up to $400 he could look at a weapon heatercore.

gouda96: it allows for a lot of flow and is thinner so it looks better. All in all its a better choice than the 1/2" id since its virtually kink free and easier to work with.

1/2" Clearflex or Tygon should be plenty easy to use, and is damn tough to kink. As far as looks are concerned and I think bigger tubing looks better, has a tough cool look. None of that whimpy I wanna sprinkle some water on the girl I have a crush on skinny tubing :D

1/2"ID 3/4"OD tubing really isn't all that easy to use. 7/16" tubing looks better, bends better and has a little bit better flow in to a 1/2"OD barb. Might want to do a search for a post by Cathar on 7/16" tubing.
Better yet here is the link by Cathar on 7/16" tubing (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=331742&highlight=7%2F16)

Wow, thanks alot for that link, great info. I am going order some 7/16" master clear and see how it is. I was apparently totally out of the loop on this watercooling revelation :D
order some of these clamps while you are at Mcmaster as they work fantastic (5076K13 or 5076K12 depending on the tubing you use).
I know you mentioned cost as an issue here, but if quiet is what you are looking for, I would recommend doing what I did on my last setup which is a BIXIII with 6 fans in a push/pull config all undervolted to like 7 volts. If you get decent fans, it will be very quiet and will still cool whatever you want it to. Or you could do what I now have which is a small car rad mounted onto the side of my case with no fans. It yields every bit of performance the BIXIII did with absolutely no noise.

Damn, that masterclear price is just so nice. Went with 20' instead of 10 since it was so cheap. Now I have 30 feet of tubing for just 1 cpu.
Guess I do have an extra heatercore, I will probably be in the market for a maze4 and a pump soon...why does that alway seem to happen?
