I've always thought that cpu burn in was a myth but I think maybe it's real can someone give me there opinion on this? I just bought a new P3 933 (133) and it seems a bit warm to me. it runs at 43 deg cel when at idle and 45 deg cel at load when using stock heatsink and settings. I have had alot of p3's in the last couple of years and it definitely runs the hottest but it's also the fastest. I have had 2 identical 700 chips, one that was in my wife's computer and wasn't overclocked for 6 months and one that was in mine and was overclocked right away. the one that was overclocked right away alway ran a bit hotter than the one that wasn't when they were both run at stock speeds on the same computer. so naturally her chip overclocks very well now, I can get it up to 933mhz and it runs cooler than my 933 does at stock and they both have stock heatsinks hmmm. should i let this 933 burn in for a while at stock settings before overclockin? if anyone has had a similar situation please let me know thanks.:(

This is one of those things that is difficult to prove either way. Me, I think this neat little phenominon does occur, but not all the time and not always to the same degree. Sometimes you get lucky- sounds like you did!

For me, it's burning in a CPU seems to let you OC it without having to crank up the voltage so much. Like now, my Celeron 566 does 961 at 1.85V, it used to take 1.98 to be stable at that speed. But it could be any of a number of other factors I suppose!:D

Some folks just run stock speed at high Vcore to burn-in, I never did that.

SiSoft Sandra has a burn-in facility. Run for a day or two, it can help with OCing most CPUs at stock voltage.......
