xavxbox.com has what they claim are pictues of the Xbox 360 motherboard. Their site says the GPU is under the left fan, and the CPU under the right. To translate roughly from French, they also state , “Soon on the site, a tutorial for disassembling the Xbox 360…” An unknown source had sent in the pic, but given xavxbox is a hacking site, hopefully someone like Team Xecuter is hard at work :)

This is a reference picture taken from the OurColony video. Notice they are largely the same.

Sweet! Lots of LEDs for a console.

Nice those fans look like they are using 3pin connector and you know I'll pop in two tornadoes soon as I get one.

Looks alright for a console ... yet outperforms my PC :(.

Don't be sad. A month after it is released some guy with to much free time will put linux on it. Then it can be your pc! :D

Thats true, hope they can put a Windows OS on it. If that were the case, id buy a MicroATX case and mod the hell outta it ... Project Log here I come ;).

They had Linux hack like 2 weeks after the original Xbox came out, remember Mech Assault (can't go into details).

Ah yes, simplier times. There should be a poll on this. When do you think the Xbox 360 will have linux on it:
1 week
2 weeks
a month
screw the xbox PS3 baby!
my secret underground sources have informed me...

Didn't it take a lot longer than that. I recall someone having a contest and the first person to get it to work won something.

It just a vague memory though

I agree, has the blue color on it from coolermaster labels. All deltas Ive seen have been B/W

And one of my deltas would eat both of them alive. We are still missing one of the cats on an unrelated, perhaps similar, note.

We should water cool one for the overclockers.com site to get some publicity.

They had an actual walkthrough on TechTV (back when there was TecthTV now its G4) like two or three weeks after the Xbox came out.

I'm pretty sure it took a while longer. There was even a large cash reward for anyone that could get linux on the X.

So the video is integraded, so how do you get drivers for it. Well if someone can figure out how to put an OS on it then im gettin one for sure.

*EDIT* One thing i noticed is how do they fit three 3.2ghz processors under 1 fan?

mage_x
07-22-05, 11:10 PM
The same way they fit two processors under one fan in dual core CPUs.

RedDragonXXX
07-22-05, 11:24 PM
Yeah, the 360 doesn't have 3 CPU's it has one CPU with 3 cores.

It is watercooled...Or so Microsoft claims. I guess that's what they're calling heatpipes to make it seem better...

for shame. geek forum and you guys didnt remember.

installing linux on an x-box wasnt difficult provided you modified the hardware to bypass certain protections on the x-box to prevent installing other hardware.

the founder of lindows however wanted linux to be installed on an UNmod'ed x-box. he offered a 100,000$ reward to the first person to install lindows on an x-box without mod.

lol, thats what i was think of. Its funny because thats about the only good thing you can do with a 007 Agent Under Fire disk. Well, that and use it as a frisbee!

ps maybe they have the chips running cool enough to where they don't need heat pipes. The cores are also a lot smaller than a P4/A64 core so they're probably pretty easy to fit under a normal heatsink depending on their spacing on the CPU.

pps I was wondering how a 1.47 ghz PIII would compare to a P4 because in an anand article he roughly equated (guesstimated really) the power of 1 core to that. I was thinking its probably about a 2 ghz P4 (NW), but really don't know if thats right. Can anyone with more knowledge of the PIII give a more accurate estimate?

The xbox wasn't hacked until April of 2002 and mod chips, xtender and enigmah, weren't available till late May/early June 2002. After those came out the bios was dumped from the xtender chip and a real influx of cheapmods (lpc based) and others came about. The losers at Techtv didn't show any of this stuff on TV till it had been out and about for well over a year.

i call fake in these pics because Allard did indeed say that the 360 was supposed to be watercooled. The only way this thing is real is if the GPU needs the fans. I don't think MS would do that though because they want this to be integrated with your home theater system and nobody would want a device that whirred and roared so loud you'd have to crank your tv volume up.

I've never seen anything about the 360 being watercooled, and it wouldn't make sense to do so. I also checked here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm and no mention. I could definitely see the possibility of a heatpipe

I did not expect to see water cooling. IMO its too risky for a console.
