View Full Version : P4 630
Ok guys I just got my 630 P4 ( 3Ghz, 2Mb L2 cache, 800FSB ), currently at stock speed ( that will change very soon ), so I am asking you other Prescott owners should I use optimized client with it ( since couple of you got problems ) ?
BTW its running now 2 instances of Prime95 and temps are around 49-50C with Zalman7000Cu at full speed. Cant wait to OC this thing and see how seti works on it. Hopefully single channel memory wont make great impact on seti times.
I would go for version 4.68 that Jigpu suggested & use the optimised client i have had no problems on any of my rigs.

If you monitor that rig regularly, then go for the optimized client.
I only see a problem with the optimized client if it is run on machines that are dedicated crunchers and are not monitored frequently.
I'm using boinc 4.45 optimized with seti 4.11 optimized on my prescotts and have no problems whatsoever (boinc has never crashed). For my dedicated cruncher: I don't touch the machine hardly ever and it has been up about 6 weeks without a single problem (I check it maybe once every 2-3 weeks). It is a prescott 3.0 running at 3.3 (1mb cache)
ok thanks for the info, havent started boincing because Im still in the process of OCing and running stability tests, but so far it has proven to be excelent OCer, 3750Mhz on stock volts prime stable. :santa:
My friend borrowed me old 2x256 samsung memory so I have dual channel now, but it wont go over 400Mhz so im running it on 5:4 divider.
And BTW this is my first Intel ( if I dont count 386 ) so im very excited with results.

My 640 runs optimized client, without any problems. Looks like you have a good chip, mine wont do jack on stock voltage.
Just completed 2 seti WUs one took 1:15 and other one 1:23 with optimized client :)
No that is @ 3750Mhz with memory on 5:4 divider so memory is at 200Mhz timings 2.5,3,3,7 dualchannel.
Boinc 4.45 SSE2 optimized and optimized client for prescott ( sse3 ).
This aint dual core TC :)
I'm surprised by the completion times - especially since it has 2MB L2.
Yes, but I heard that because of larger cache it also has 17% higher latency, anyway 30WUs per day aint too shabby for single core chip :), this is almost like production X2 would have and it costs alot less money.
I would have went with the PentiumD but it would require PCI-E graphics card and im not really into selling my GT now so I went with 630.
Interesting. I wonder how much of a difference DDR2 is making on my platform. Still that's not bad. I'm getting about 50-52 WU's per day on my dual core at 3.8GHz.
