hey,
i just installed watercooling on my machine.
I dont know which temperature display to trust my motherboard (Abit AS8) or my Hardcano 13 display. I mounted the temperature diods or strips on my cpu waterblock on the side wall (as shown in the hardcano manual). now the hardcano shows 44C and my Abit AS8 guru software shows 48C - 52C. I know this is nothing critical but it its a bit of a difference and im not sure which one to trust. I use swifttech hydra X coolant.
thanks

Simple. Don't trust any of them. Temp sensors are known to be off and rarely, if ever, display the correct tempature. I quote my temps only becuase I can use them as a referance becuase at least my temps are consistantly off.

However not all temps are off, personally I've nenver had a problem with my temp sensors so I would not say that you can't trust em. Personally I would remember that the one you put on is not near the die so not in a good spot. I would take the cpu die over the one you placed.

Gotta agree here, regardless of where you get your temps they are really only useful as a point of reference to themselves (like did this change increase or decrease temps). Theoretically the temps read off of the diode on your cpu will be most accurate, but its still very common to see 1 motherboard from another report different temps with the same heatsink, fan and cpu moved from one to the other.

Your temps sound high despite temperature readers sucking.

Try #6 here and see if that helps.

Just cause you've never had a problem with it doesn't mean it gives the right temps. Everyone here knows not to trust the temps as they can be off by as much as 10c. Even the on die temp reading can be off by a few.

no I'm merely saying that just because they can be doesn't mean they are. I have yet to see one conclusive piece of evidence that all of those sensors are flawed. Also his temp readings seem to be supported by his other sensor. Now the odds of two sensors in one system both being off but being close is highly unlikely.

Well on this I would go with the on board sensor. As the P4 was not made to have a temp probe used on it. The block is not sitting right which would be a good reason for the higher temps.
