View Full Version : Where to find resistors?

I'm looking for some resistors that my local Radio Shack doesn't have. I need either a 1.6K ohm 1/4w (1% would be nice...) or a 2K 25-turn VR. Where you guys get your resistors? I see some on www.outpost.com, but shipping is crazy.
Keep this thread up top. I forget where I got my last ones now. I buy variable resistors now in different ranges as they are more effective for me but can't remember where. I am sure you will get a few links on this question though. Definately do a search on the internet for variable resistors. Last ones I got by mail in an envelope but it was some time back. I ordered enough to hold me for awhile.

I found this site, and they look decent...prices are great too, and they'll ship little stuff First Class.

If someone wants to sticky this, I'll just compile all the answers to the thread up on the top of the page, with details on the stores and whatnot, including my experiences and experiences with other stores.
This is where I got them last go.

Go to your neigbour's house with a fire axe and break open some of their electronic appliances. There's sure to be some resistors in there. :)

Mouser and Digi-key.com are probably the best.
Plus, you can get a LOT for cheap prices

I just got some Potentiometers (variable cermet type resistors) from Digikey. I got a 25 turn 500K, and a 25 turn 20K. I bought the Bourne 3/8" sq. ones. They were relatively cheap. There is a 5.00 fee for orders under 25 dollars, but shipping is very reasonable. Use Priority Mail from USPS and it really cheap. I also had caps and wire in there and it was only like 3 bucks or so for the shipping. There is no minimum order. You just have to pay that $5.00 fee if it's under 25.

BTW, I forgot to add...
If you're using these for volt mods avoid RS! You want good quality resistors for this. If they fail it can lead to overvolts, and you know what happens next!

Thanks for the tip. I'm going to try that Cascade Surplus store I found...they have a 1.69k Ohm 1% resistor that's just pefect for the vDroop mod on my AS8.
