I just tore apart an old Laptop for a processor when I realized that I didnt know its socket type. Is there anyway to find out what socket size it is? Also, would I be able to buy a mobo and turn it into a desktop? I can hardley make out what it says on it anymore but I can read that its an Intel Pentium 4, with 2 somin of mhz and then under that it has SL689 but im not positve about the numbers. I know it says "Phillipiens" tho. Please help

http://forums.eyo.com.au/showthread.php?t=7466 this guy has p4 with an s-spec of SL689 on it running in a regular 478 mobo. I would imagine that you probably have a normal desktop socket 478 pentium 4 processor despite it being from a laptop, so just look at any of the threads reccomending 478 boards for the p4, i'm an AMD man so i don't really know what intel boards are that good.

Can't find anything with SL689, must be wrong. Can you look at it with a magnifying glass?

refers to p4 2.4: 'I can see on the IHS is SL689'
I can see on the IHS is SL689, but it's hard to be sure as some of the TIM is stuck to the IHS.
Maybe it's incorrect too? The Intel s-spec finder has nothing listed for SL689. That's not to say it don't exist, but we can't tell anything about it if Intel don't list it.
