This is my first attempt at linux, a little vid probs @ first, got that solved now, It didn't see my Gforce II card so I had to set it to generic vga compatable and a res of 600X400, as you can imagin this looks real bad, I have searched the Nvidia site and found drivers for linux, only one problem, don't know which one's to get, about 50 different files to DL and I am a newbe, I have no Idea what to do, I feel confident I can learn Linux, but can't tolerate this horable res untill I figure out how to change it on my own, please halp me with this wonderfull OS.
(I already like it better than windows, have been running for 1hr35mn without a crash yet, somthing windows could'nt even dream of LOL)
First, you'll need to tell us what distro you have..
you'll need to d/l both the GLX and kernel for whatever distro you have..
I use slackware...so I'd go with the tar.gz files (they're fairly universal)...
EDIT: just read your other post...
I would suggest (depending on if you use rpm or tarballs) either the first or second set of d/ls
and also, you might wanna considder updating your kernel...

how would one go about updating my kernal.
linux kernal 2.2.14 , Xfree86 3.3.6
Please note, this is not necessary..
the newest kernel is 2.4.12, which you'd need to d/l from kernel.org or a mirror..
check caldera's web site for distro specific instructions on updating your kernel..
also, linuxdoc.org has a couple HOW-TOs on kernel updating
Its easier than it looks, if you have instructions, and the newer kernels have some nice added support...

Thanks for the help on this, I see several different options for the nvidia drivers including
Any RPM-based system with an upgraded / customized / non-default kernel
Systems which do not use RPMS for package management
and the rest seem to be OS specific for redhat, mandrake and suse
I am guessing that I will need the one's for sys which do not use RPMS for package managment.
I've never used Caldera, so I don't know what package management is best supports, but the tar.gz files are usually a safe bet..
That's what I would recommend

Read the install info from NVidia very carefully. 1st problem "may" be that you need to be running a 2.4 series kernel, and 2nd problem, you need to be running XFree version 4.xx .. Me thinks you're looking at getting a newer distro (sorry)..

Well, I stand corrected. You're ok with the kernel (I'd upgrade anyway) but you're SOL with the XFree 3xx ..

Thank you Hack, i think I am going to wait for Suse 7.3 to come out(soon if not already) and go with that, what do you think?
