I have a file with the ending .zip.exe so windows thinks it's executable when it's actually a zip file. How do I change the file name so windows will recognize it as a zip file?

Easy (and its not a stupid question, a friend asked me the same question 2 days ago)
1 Open a folder
2 click Tools/Folder Options
3 click View (middle tab)
4 look for 'hide file extensions for known file types'
that's it....well you still need to rename it (right click the file...rename)
Right click on the file and select rename from the menu. Change the name to *****.zip

Thanks guys, I managed to change it only it still isn't recognized as a zip file. I can't unzip it or anything.
Must not be in zip format. Did you try RAR or ACE file extensions?

What zip prog do you use?
I would suggest you use WinAce (http://www.winace.com).
After you've installed WinAce just right click on the file and click 'Extract to\****\***'
Or you could use 'Extract to...' that way you'll be able to see whats in the file.

just throw it in there anyway
some times it comes up
sounds like something you downloaded of a peer to peer
alot of times thouse things are crap anyway.
if it doesnt work go find a new one.

Ummm...is it not possible that a file ending with 2 extensions and most importantly the last extention being .exe could possible be a worm/trojan/virus/other really bad thing?
A real chance you are right. That's one more reason I change the default windows setting for hidding the full file name for registered file types.

Yeah as mentioned above that file most likely contains something generated to execute on your pc with out you knowing. If you ever get a file like that again just know the last extension is the actual extention. In this case it is .exe a executable file. There is no reason that any file would ever have two extensions..

Since I get the feeling you've clicked on it a few times you might want to run some antivirus software to make sure you haven't gotten infected with something. If you don't own any software you can go to some places that scan for free. Believe Symantec can scan for you and I know you can go to www.pcpitstop.com and it has a scanner.
