Okay, I just got an XP 1800/MSI K7T266 Pro and slapped it together to get it running and even used the el cheapo heatsink from AMD.
I have since added my extra fans- exhaust under psu, intake in front. I have not yet put in a chimney exhaust or my usual through-the-side passive duct BECAUSE.......the chipset on this mobo is passive-no fan! Cpu temps (MBM) are around 48, 50c, chipset is VERY HOT to the touch! I have a fan in the case side blowing ambient air towards chipset and cpu, which brought temps down from 55, 57c!

I am sure that the chipset is the cause of this heat retention, since case temps are much higher than my systems usually are, and both of my other boards have active cooling on their chipsets.

Any ideas for the best aircooled solution to this hot chipset?
The one thing I won't do is glue anything down- I change Stuff too much for that. The sink on the chipset looks removable, little plastic pins, but I don't know if there are any sink/fan setups that "bolt on" to the mobo.

Blue Orbs will usually fit on Chipsets, and if you can get the fan from a Golden orb or Super Orb, then it will screw into the Blue Orb for much better airflow. Otherwise, the Lasagna coolers might help. Or, you could just get a 40 or 50mm Fan from somewhere and screw it on to the 'green meanie' passive sink that's on the chipset. Also, just the simple act of taking the passive sink off, cleaning both the sink and the chip with rubbing alcohol and putting some ASII in there can drop temps. I was unable to get above 144 bus on my KK266 before checking this, and whaddaya know, There was NO thermal grease between the passive heatsink and the northbridge chip. Once I put some ASII in there and a 50mm Fan from CrazyPC.com, I got the board to boot to windows as high as 170 bus, and stable as high as 168.
Hope this helps.

you could also get a 486 heatsink and fan or use a big heatsink, i was using a fop32

I'm gonna use a part of an old slot p2 heatsink on the northbridge of my next comp.

how would you take the heat sink of the north bridge? i cant stick it in the freezer, right? lol

On my Iwill KK266-R and my Abit KT7 Raid the northbrige HS was attached by some plastic 'pins' that pushed through a hole in the mobo. To get them off I had to remove the mobo and then squeeze the pointl part with some pliers and pull on the head on the hs side. Once off I recommend attaching it back with some small nuts and bolts and those orange insualtor washers. In this way I was able to put a 50mm x 50mm water block on my northbridge. I will probably replace it with an on 486 hs though because I think the waterblock is overkill.
