BF2.
If it doesn't work, you should donate your gaming essential parts (Video Card and Ram) to me, for a trade-back for my vid card and ram, just so you have an office-esque computer
:D
[/sarcasm]
I'm thinking you want something thats not repetative, like FarCry. Or perhaps, a break from gamming, so you will understand how much you miss it... :)
[Edit] It's good that you cleaned your room. I just found a roachy in mine... :(
[Edit2] Or better yet, uninstall windows completly and install linux and try to get it running with Zero help from anything/ anybody. :)

BF2 Demo is pretty l337, but I've been running into "Fund Difficulties" so I can't really buy any new games :(. I played that for a few minutes(About 30) and got sick of it...
Meh, looks like its time to install Linux on my backup backup 80 GB... and Windows on my RAID.

Try playin Day of Defeat on steam. That's what I've been playing lately. Either that or UT2K4 cause that game never gets old. I swear, I'll never get board of that game even if I try.

sound exactly like me....
was playing WoW like 3-10 hours a day (like i did with AC1) then i went on vacation for a week and havent played a single game since ... been about a month now....ive started to load the game a few times and realize that: i just dont want to do this, and exit out :(
i guess i finally grew-up / out of gaming (@ age 33)
i kinda hope the gaming industry has something up their sleeves to get us back.

But I'm only 16! I have so much more of my life to live!
*sniff*
Hopefully I get AOE3 for my birthday....
Otherwise, I'm stuck playing "Stunts" or "Raptor: Call of the Shadows" and possibly that old Dune RPG...

damn dude, 16 is when the fun starts...then in about 2-3 years it drops off then you hit 21 and it gets fun again then you get a DUI and ....
GOOD LUCK ;)
I'm sort of drifting away from gaming to be honest. I have stopped my WoW sub, Guild Wars is getting old (I keep dying :-\) and I play a little UT2k4 now and then for some mindless violence.
I have played the Dawn of War demo and will probably buy the game next month.

Meh, I already have a job, and am pushing for another Job at the local ISP as a computer repairperson.
I don't drink, hate the smell of Alchohol, think smoking is disgusting, and have very few friends.
Fun for me was games, and now I can't even play them without getting bored to tears.
So, guess I'll just keep cleaning my room and learning PHP...

what works for me....
when i get bored of games, i go back and hook up the ol'e NES, or SNES, or even atari.
play a few of the older games, such as Chrono Trigger, Doom, Doom 2, Wolfenstein, Teenage mutant ninja turtles, Frogger, Excite Bike, Final Fantasy 1, Mario 1,2,3. Super mario world...etc.
I'v been playing Sword of Vermillion for the genesis again...well actually i have been playing those on my PSP. But that would go into detail about emulation, which isn't allowed here. But stuff like that breaks your normal routine of playing every day new games that come out.
For me, that then puts me back in the mood to play UT2K4, or ROSE, and stuff like that.
that, and getting a GF will always help. heh. but i can't really say much in that department...i'v been single for a good 8 months now. hehe.

Is it possible to envy and pity someone at the same time? Women are like the best and worst thing to ever happen :bang head
Edit: Oh, yeah, and on a somewhat more serious note. Try reading a book. I know that sounds cliche these days, but hear me out before you roll your eyes. I used to love reading, but I've been so infatuated with video games the last several years that I've missed a lot of good stuff. And I've gotten the same kinda burnout your going through, and it helped a lot. Just the change from reading from paper instead of a monitor was refreshing in anof itself.

Does the book have to be about something OTHER than Programming?
Any recommendations? I have read ever single Orson Scott Card, Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, and Douglas Adams book known to man.
I started Stranger in a Strange Land, but I was at an auction, and someone decided to buy the box that book went in :(. I don't think our library actually has it.
Any other good authors?
superdaveviii
07-24-05, 10:31 PM
Well, if programming books are what you enjoy, though, yeah, kinda not what I meant.
As far as authors, shrug, I don't know. Like I said, I haven't been reading much the last couple years, so I'm not really all that up to date. I liked Marion Zimmer Bradley a lot, the Mists of Avalon series was pretty interesting. Tom Clancy was pretty good, but very hit or miss. I either loved it or hated it. John Grisham was always a good bet for me to enjoy, though. Dean Kootz was a lot like Clancy, Michael Criton was always enjoyable though. Hell, maybe give those Harry Potter books a try, or The DaVinci Code. I haven't read a page of any of them, but everyone else raves about them.
However, looking back at the games you listed, two FPS and one RTS. Maybe just a genre change could help. Try looking around for some good RPGs. Run, shoot, run, run, shoot, run is all well and good, but it gets old. Or pick up some older games.
I think it's just a kinda rut you're in. Maybe getting off the computer and reading a book, or just trying out a different type of game or getting into some ones that you haven't played before. The point is, sometimes getting stuck in the same cycle just wears you down, everyone needs a change now and again. A lot of people ask me why I don't get into computers as a job, since I love them so much. It never made sense to me, because if what I loved became my job ... would I really love it after a while? I would probably go insane from just doing the same thing over and over again like I do at any other job.

Counterstrike?
That game is the most addictive game if you play with good buddies.
I recommend a book series called 'A game of thrones' by George R R Martin
F'ing brilliant read
Counter-Strike is frustrating. Try reading Fight Club. That's an awesome book, as is the movie. Catcher in the Rye is a very down to earth book that you'd probably enjoy if you're like me. I bet you could relate to the main character which makes the book alot better.

same, I think its the tennis ball scenario ... I seen some vet program about a dog that always chewed up its toys etc, and to stop it they basically gave it about 100 tennis balls -the dog didnt even look twice at them.
I tend to see people who buy 1-2 games a year play them games ALL year and wub them, people who buy 1-2 even 3-4 games a month (me :( ) play them for like a week and get bored and just want a new one :(

Sagelike wisdom if ever I've read it. Pull out your old consoles, backtrack, and buy any good older games you may have for whatever reason missed.

It will happen, most of us will just become burned out on gaming or just not find it fun to see what the next level is like. I quit gaming for 10 years. I switched to other addictions, mostly golf, working out and reading books took over the bored down time. Didn't even have the slightest desire to game. I Bought an xbox and played one game on it in 2 years and it was a struggle to finish Halo. It just sits there doing nothing. Recently got back into gaming with HL2 and WoW and have been playing WoW now for 4 months. But am eventually seeing an end for me there as well. I am starting to miss being outside on the links again.

I would pull out my consoles...
Problem 1) No T.V. My grandpa has the only TV in the house, and I have no TV tuner card.
2) My basement flooded last month. My atari/NES were on the floor with nealry 50 games(in a box) and now they are soaked and destroyed.
3) My only other console is a dreamcast, where I have two games(both crap) and I can't even FIND good/decent games for it, as the local game store is a POC.
Meh... I love RPGs, and I really want a decent good one. I'm gonna check out the UO Redemption shard.. haven't ever played UO.

Dune RPG, man this brings back memories...
That game is probably at least 12 years old if not more, when it came out you ware like 4... LOL
Anyhow I'm a big RPG fan too so I'm having rough time playing games recently as well, Guild Wars kept me busy for ummm....a week and now I'm playing San Andreas which is rather fun. If you want to try an addictive games try Jagged Alliance 2, one of my all time favorites. I'm just hoping some good RPG's will come out.

3 words...Brett Eaton Ellis.... American Psycho. Great read. I get bored too. Right now nothing is near what is once was. I was playing a lot of EQ2, now I am bored of that. I don't have that many friends that game, so the lan party is kinda out of it (even when I can supply 3 computers). The wife likes mindless games... On the Ps2 Red Faction 2 etc,....hates the FPS on the computer. Go figure.

Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles are also good.

As for games, the market is sorely lacking in good MMOs, I'm waiting for V:SoH beta.

Now I see what your problem is. You don't have an SNES or a Playstation. You've missed out on (arguably) the two greatest eras in gaming history. I don't care if you have to start turning tricks to get the cash, you need to get yourself a Playstation and a SNES A.S.A.P. Those two systems alone will keep you busy for at least a year.

As for books I reccomend The Dark Tower series by Steven King. I'm not a die-hard fan of any author, but of the books I've read of Steven King those are the best IMO. That sucks your NES got soaked. I want to find mine, but I'm not willing to dig through a million boxes to find it. Looks like you got the shaft on TVs. BF2 got me hooked on PC FPS games. Unfortunately I don't have a good computer for gaming, but a friend of mine does and I get to play it every once in a blue moon. Anyway, that's my two bits.

I know the answer. Get that pimp hand ready yo.
What I mean is get a girlfriend. And one that doesn't hate computers preferably (unlike my gf:
"Something about them (computers) just pis'es me off."
- my gf.
But she was hot......AND smart so I don't care though.)
And then you should read "Prince of theives." Really good book even though it doesn't have a happy ending :( . Forgot the author though, sorry.
Then when your depressed after reading, it go play gothic 2 and you will rediscover fun.
Proven formula. Take it from a pro pimp.
edit: Scientific american is also nice. That magazine is VERY interesting and well written. I have every issue since 4 years ago.
I get bored once in a while and just use my computer for going online and messing around. I got bored of CS:S after a while until I hit up some friends and gamed. After that I got bored and got into Surfing(in CS, although I do surf in real life). Lots of fun, DAWN OF WAR = TOO MUCH FUN. Very addicting but if you don't play online, it gets boring.

If you're into fantasy type of stuff, the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is wonderful and there's a ton of them to read :P I would say that if you enjoy the php, keep doing that until you get burned out on it, then give gaming another shot. Another alternative is hacky sack, it's great fun hopping around trying to control a little sack of sand. Finding another person who shares an interest in computers and having little two or three person lans can be fun too.
Enemy Territory! It's Free And Is one of the best online multiplayer games out there, w/ AMAZING game play, plus it's not just deathmatch b/s, you get pretty awesome objectives, in ONLINE MULTIPLAYER
If you enjoy MMORG's, try RoseOnline. www.roseon.com
Counter-Strike is without doubt the most frustrating and addictive game ever made. I'm addicted, my friends are addicted, and so are millions of players. Just keep playing and once you get over frustration, you strive to get better and thats when the fun starts. Try joining a clan and getting to know people. Thats the way to roll if none of your friends play.
Me and my clan play a lot of online games, if you are looking for anybody to play with feel free to come into our 50man vent(www.ventrilo.com) and chill with us.
Nation.Calivoice.com port 3864 no password. Look for Eatmyshorts or me (MicRo)
It's great fun :)
Of course, everybody else is welcome to come and play with us also. Any CS fans especially, we scrim a LOT.

I just want to Clairify one thing....
FF:T ( Final Fantasy Tactics, and i'm assuming thats what you are talking about ) WAS NOT PORTED TO GBA!
GBA got a whole new game. FF:TA ( Tactics Advance ). Its not a port, and honestly, i dont find that game anywhere near as good as the original FF:T.
Rose Online is actually quite fun... But the economy in the game is Fubared BADLY, but its still a fun game.
I won't go into detail, but If you down actually have the systems/cant find them, use an emulator. At least you will kill time by playing some old Classic games and such. Plus, some games are literally impossible to find anymore. Some games, you will never see another hard-copy of it again in your entire life.

You know it is an epic series and I have read them all to date, however I feel Martin introduces way to may obscure characters that are not developed. Last I checked A FEAST FOR CROWS is still in final draft stages (at least a year over due) and is over 1500 pages. Edit man... Edit!
The Dark Tower series is the only King I have ever been able to read.
Two of favorite characters from sci-fi/fantasy have been Lois McMaster Bujold's "Miles Vorkosigan" and Roger Zelazney's "Corwin" from the Amber series. Both are fun easy reads that have won several Hugo and Nebula awards.
Damn one more awsome pure sci-fi series, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mar's trilogy. Again Hugo and Nebula winners.

If you want good books, go with the DaVinci Code/Angels & Demons suggestions. Great books, easy reading, don't have to be a fan to get into them.
As far as your other problem, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! It sounds like you need a friend. Figure out a few things you like, find people in your area that like the same things, and get together with those people and hang out. If it's playing games together, great. If it's playing sports, dominoes, customizing cars, talking, anything at all. A box full of moving electricity can only go so far in filling the need for interaction that we all have. If you do that you'll find that when you're not busy hanging out with people you will actually enjoy playing the games that you haven't played in a while. If you do anything for too long and don't take a break you will get bored and want to do something else.
Games: Join operations, Operation flashpoint (Brilliant game, even though it's old, make sure you update it), Muonline (www.muonline.com - highly addictive to most people, I've been playing it for 3 years on and off, for private servers look in forum.ragezone.com), Star Wars: Knights of the old republic 2, CS and CS:S, Infiltration (soon to be released HL2 mod, previously a UT mod. keep an eye on it http://infiltration.sentrystudios.net), Falcon 4 allied force (if you're into complex simulators), LOMAC (if you're into some less complex simulators than F4, LOMAC also features great graphics www.lo-mac.com), Call of duty (and the expansion), soon to come out S.T.A.L.K.E.R (www.stalker-game.com , and www.oblivion-lost.com).
I can come up with more if you want.
Books: Ringworld books, ender's game books. - around 10 or so books total.

I think people have mentioned this but.....GIRLFRIEND+SOME MORE FRIENDS!!!
Really, you need to take a break and do something or join a mod team, one or the other :P Devs don't actually play games until their done and that shoudl give you plenty of time to relearn how to enjoy games again.
Heh. I did that when I got bored of PC games. Took up a sport and learning to play the guitar. Just find something interesting to do for a while :D

I've had streaks like that....
I might play games for 3-4 months then I do other things like 3D Modeling or play with my RC Car. Just something other then gaming (except for weekend when I play some RTS's with my dad).
Everyone has a streaking point. I use to play games consistantly throughout my high school days and most of my college days. But I also had other activites that took me away from the computer here and there. So now I might play for a period of time but I eventually just get bored and stop for a while and move onto something new.

play a few of the older games, such as Chrono Trigger
KICK ASS GAME!!!!
F.E.A.R is on Multiplayer Beta, heard the game is sweet, you should give it a go.
You could also start drinking, I think 16 is the normal age for that :attn:
I ve pretty much run into the same problem, games just don t seem appeasing as they used to. Maybe its because its the same old crap over and over agian nothing new. Like Doom 3 or HL2 you already know how it starts out. Or blizzard, every game blizzard makes its like Know main character, main character meets other character, other character betrays main character, etc...
I switched over to MMO-ish type games because i get the feeling that all games are pretty much predictable... need something that will keep ur mind boggeled like say for example American McGees Alice, that kept me interested through out the entire game o_O

Too true. Sometimes I really need to unplug, just get away from computers/games for a while. Read a good book, something not too technical (ie no programming textbooks). Ride your bike. Bone some chicks. After a while the craving for games just naturally returns.
I was sick of gaming this past winter, b/c I was stuck indoors and playing games all the time. I wasn't sick of my compy tho so I taught myself php/mySQL in my spare time. It's actually pretty fun.
