I'm about to drop boinc. Due to temps in the house, my room being so hot, i'm starting to sweat, and having trouble sleeping at night due to the heat in my room.
Ontop of that, I can't keep up anymore.
when its starts getting cooler outside, i think i'll Join back up. Maybe i'll crunch under another Project.
but for now, i think i need to kill off boinc for a while.
and i'm at rank 50 in the team. and here soon, i'll be at 51. no longer will i be in the top 50 anymore.
So i think its time for another Avatar change...

Nah, just get another fan :)
That's what I'm doing.
haha. I had to get a window air conditioner from my room. and I have central air. :D
How do I join the ocforums seti team? I've had my own team for awhile, but I wouldn't mind joining a larger team.

If your runing any other BOINC projects you should be able to find a search, just look for Overclockers.com and thats one of ours. If you can't find a team search let me know, I'll pull up the team page from my account info for the project.
And WELCOME TO THE TEAM!

yeah, as soon as the Temps around here drop a bit, i'll be back up and running.
also, an extra fan only really help all that much. It would only help dissipate the heat into my room faster, causeing ME to sweat sooner, and making it even HARDER to sleep.
It just boils down to Either me being comfortable and able to sleep without sweating to death, Or running a single program on my pc.
And sadly, i don't have room for an AC in my room at all.
i have an 8"x8" "window" in my room ( a long time ago, that hole there was a coal chute, my room was a coal storage room, then the coal would be put into the burner to heat the house )
My ONLY option is to shell out 300+ bucks for once of those AC's that has the Ducting on the back to duct out the heat. but i'd need extra long Ducting, since the Hole is up pretty high. And on-top of that, we already have one of those in the livingroom down here in the basement as it is. and i'm sure my dad wouldn't like ANOTHER AC unit adding to the Electricity bill as it is.
It also doesn't help that I chipped my CPU, so the H/S doesn't want to exactly stay perfectly flat on the DIE, so my load temps with the SI-97 hits around 55, while when idle i'm at 40 C.
Maybe i can get my grandpa to also help me make the Base of my H/S flatter. Since i know he has all the tools in his girage to do so...hell he has a machine lathe in there. He has fun, and has built miniature cannons, constantly makes Metal Tables so he can hold MORE Tools in his girage...i think it would be within his power to be able to MAke something pretty darn flat.
But untill that actually happens, I'm out of the race for a while.
All that, or i somehow win the lottery, Buy a totally new system...or 10 ( heh ) and have that room specificly cooled Via A powerfull AC unit....
I hear ya zex, my problem with sleep was the noise - drove me crazy - in general I always choice my sleeping over SETI - and I'd recommend the same to anyone else heh :)
I got around some of it by having friends who had seperate offices and/or unused rooms let me dump a computer here and there - also my employer lets me keep a few extra pc's in my office. (I also just didn't run seti at night) Don't know if any of that is an option for you - but, just a thought!
Hope to see you return upon the arrival of cooler weather!!!

I do have a few friends who also crunch under my name as well...
but one of them is having the exact same problem as me. Except for the fact that his AC Died on him.
His mom was dumb, and bought the AC unit at a girage sale for 200 bucks like a year or two ago. Go figure, if i'm paying 200 bucks for a AC, i would just get a new one  but thats just me.
and with his room upstairs...whoooo it can get mighty hot in there! So he has been keeping his secondary PC off for a while, and been killing boinc on his main due to the heat as well.
I have Another friend who is also crunching for me, but his PC isn't exactly a power-cruncher.
So, i'll just make due for now, and start back up once fall hits, when its not 90+ degree's outside. I live in ohio, and anyone else here knows how bad it is out today ( monday ). Not only is it hot, but we have a 70% humidity...seriously, i just checked Weather.com. God its soooo muggy out!
