That is the question.
Are you looking for a wireless or a cablerouter?
For cablerouter i would say, D-link di-804HV, it has all kinds of security offers. HW firewall, portaddressing, vpn, downside half duplex. (If you have 10Mbit, you will only recieve about 800kb/s and upload at 300kb/s or 50/50 depending on the person that you upload too)
If all that isn't necessary i would more look into the D-link di-604 Full duplex router.

For a wireless, well there are severals depending on speed.

108Mbps
D-link DGL4300
D-link di-624 (non-plus)
D-link di-634M
D-link di-774 and 784 (tri-mode dualband)

54Mbps
D-link di-624+
D-link di-824VUP+

Geez, i look like a d-link rep. I like the products.
Someone else might be able to fill in on other routers, i only mentioned the brand i like.

Definitly a good switch/router. I used it for a while (The wireless version though with 5 ports) and it worked wonders. Especially if it was on the inside of a network, ports forwarded through it from our main router perfectly.

Definitely. Aka the DLink Gaming router...comes in black with blue LEDs.

Review (http://www.viperlair.com/reviews/misc/net/dlink/dgl4300/index.shtml)

More than $75 tho.

Well i love my di804, as long as i don't need the full duplex, my ISP provides me with 5 ips, so i rarely use it anymore.
Only heard positive remarks about the dgl-4300 so that could be a nice upgrade when i return to xDSL land..

The only question you haven't answered is: Do you want wireless or wire?

If wire/cheap/good for the buck D-link di-604 $49.99 @ BB
If wireless/good for the buck D-link di-624 $79.99 @ BB
There is also Netgears wirerouters, they are pretty good, haven't tried them myself, but many (not just on these boards, just IRL) people recommend them. I wouldn't because i haven't tried one. :D

What ever happened to Linksys?
I don't really have any experience with wireless networking but I thought Linksys was up there. Just curious.

netgear adapters are pretty good. I was looking into getting one soon.

p.s. why isn't this in internet, networking and security?

Routers are hardware, and this is General Hardware. ;)

But it could probably go there too.

I was thinking sense it is a "networking" device, it should go in internet, networking and security. But no big deal, it doesn't matter, we can still help. :)

I use the Linksys Wireless-G w/ Speedbooster. It actually makes a difference as I get 125mbps. I use a Range Extender though and I'm thinking about getting the 7dbi Antennas on my wireless router. For the Speedbooster to work though, you must have both Speedbooster type products on both ends.

Old thread, but that doesn't mean I won't move it to the right place. This belongs here in Internet, Networking and Security. Please try and remember to place threads in the right section. Thanks. Good luck with the router purchase!
