Buffered/Unbuffered? Registered?

Registered RAM has an input buffer (or register). This results in higher latencies, but provides extreme stability. Usually, this is only used for servers. Dual CPU motherboards are intended for servers, and so usually require registered RAM.

Unbuffered RAM is what most of us use. It's stable enough for all but "mission critical" applications, has lower latencies, and costs less.
