I think we, the citizens of the world, should sue her for buying an MA rated game for a minor, then complaining that is has adult content...or maybe just force her into a home for the mentally incompetent.
Seriously though, for the life of me, I'll never understand why so many people feel that violence (especially against innocent people) is acceptable while sex is completely taboo. Then we wonder why our kids kill each other...
he can't see a semi-nude sex scene thats something al ong the lines of a pg-13 movie
but he can kill hookers and cops with a baseball bat

And there has been porn video games made since the atari....and they are complaining now!
ARGGGGG, i SERIOUSLY want to go and beat the living hell out of people with a base ball bat!!!
This is bull! The mother just knows she will win the suit, and get a crap load of money from this. Its not about the ratings to the mom, or the lawyers! its about the money. thats what its been about from the beginning.
why didn't people make a huge fuss that Titanic the movie, rated PG-13, had Frontal nudity on it! And it wasn't " Brief " nudity either. There was a decent ammount of screen time in which it showed that lady's breasts, and nearly showed what was on the lower half of her body as well.
Damn america! trying to be sooo blasted conservative on everything! Other parts of the wold don't have this prolem, ONLY WE DO. because they try to censor everything. If they would just let it go, people wouldn't complain, there wouldn't be pepole freaking out of this.
God forbit someone see a private part or two of a person on a video game, and yet we all know that all we have to do is look down in the shower and we see more!.
God, i should sue makers of mirrors, because they can show nudity to me!
Why don't i sue clothing manufacturers because the clothes can be taken off as well!
OMG nudity is just SOOOO BAD!!! why don't we all, from now on keep ALL our clothes on at all times, never get naked, never have sex ( cause we'd see nudity ) and stop having kids
Would fix the problem! No nudity for kids to see, and no kids to see nudity!!

id like to sign on for a couple of these proposed lawsuits if possible!
ive always found it so amusing how people think violence is acceptable but nudity isnt. the fact of the matter with the hot coffee mod is that you have to input it you cant just unlock it through the game normally so why not ask why her kid would want to do that..........
kind of like when al gores daughter came home listenting to an N.W.A tape and her parents freaked out after hearing some of the lyrics and went after the music industry. rather than ask themselves "why does our lovely daughter want to listen to this terrible music?" they just set out to elimnate the music itself...... pretty lame. mustve been all the stress from al gore helping to create the internet......

yeah and the kid never even saw any of the sex according to my understanding of the suit. this old biddy of a grandma bought her grandkid the game (her 14yr old grandson even though the games for 17+ queen of morality we see already) then after hearing about the hidden sex content had the game taken away from her grandson and sued......
this countrys starting to go to the birds where the dumbest people are getting the most money....... hopefully this will get smacked down in court but the way things are going lately it will probably be a huge success :-/

OMG it was great!
I was just at my local Gamestop at the mall.
This lady comes in ( older lady ). goes up to the clerk, and asks if she could get GTA:SA for her son.
The clerk had to explain to her the situation and that Rockstar re-called all the games, and are going to be putting an AO rating on it. And because it will have an AO rating on it, the store isn't allowed to carry it anymore.
The lady wasn't really happy. Said said her son was 15/16 years old. And she has seen the game being played, knows whats in it. she even stated that it won't do any damage to her son, that its only a video game.
She asked where she could get one, they told her basicly, she'd have to go to a store that will sell AO rated games, or order it online. The lady wasn't to happy. She really wanted to get this for her son.
Proves there are still a FEW parants left that realize there are worse things in life than a video game.
At least she wasn't buying an Ounce of weed, to share it with her son, like some of the parants i know do....
But the lady thought the entire situation was retarded and that its only a game that there is worse things shown on the news, on TV, and in movies.

So lame, the lady suing is 85 who knowingly bought an M rated game for her 14 year old grandson. Uhhhh, so you've got to prove to the world that you were wrong in the first place buying the game for an underage kid, but you were wrong by the wrong increment? I've never heard anything so senile and retarded.
I hope Rockstar is awarded 14 million for being badgered by such fools.

easy answer, "art" will be able to get by with alot more than things that america and it's politicians don't see as art, they don't yet recognize video games as art, which it probably should be, it's a damned complex field that takes alot of talent, ect which i will start to find out alot more about next week. anyways when a jawdropper chick flick sort of thing like that comes along and people think this and that it sways the choices as non brief female nudity normally always gets the R Rating but not in the case when you know the right people or you can pass it off as necessary or some crap.
the real problem to be fixed is why can they show me some dudes ass in a pg-13 movie but not some chicks breasts or ass...and it's probably the consensus of the fact that most teenage girls arent going to get that same feeling teenage boys will once they see such a thing....
I think i may have gotten a little off topic... anyways in the end this women has the chance if winning, but rockstar will stomp it out...i mean theres nothing that says if you think your 14yr old is mature enough for said game as long as you've previewed the content that you can't let them have it, the ESRB rating is really only to be informative on their feelings. but then it changes to ao and the women gets suehappy. because said 14yr old has a better chance at downloading some pr0n before getting this mod to work provided its a console version...and with that said the alternative will be way more entertaining than the unlock

85 year old buys her grandson who turned 14 GTA:SA, she should be locked up herself. Oh well, she'll be dead in a few years....Sure she is doing it to give the money to her kids obviously adults which in return will re-buy the GTA:SA game for there kid, back to square one. This time AO (ADULTS ONLY) LMAO! :bang head
You know this kid will hop on it too saying it scared him for life, think of all the videogames he can buy from now on if they win.

First of all...that lady is a F***ing moron! She buys a game for a 14 year old,but admits she bought it knowing it had an "M" rating meant for 17+
How can she have any case whatsoever when she admits that she was willing to buy a game that professionals in the field deemed to "mature" for her 14 year old grandson? Greed.
Secondly,I hate the GTA series, and think its one of the worst games ever made. The entire plot centers around violence...thats it...its just brutal violence with no real plot. However,I have to take Rockstars side. The hidden scene was unneccesary, but I think its safe to say that most of the kids who own this game probably see far worst on a daily basis just from their parents!I dont get it...Jimmy Smitts bares his ass on public television, and everything is cool---as a matter of fact the network really publicized that scene in previews just to get more viewers....so,real nudity is acceptable depending on how much clout and money your company has, while a computer simulated sex scene(which doesnt even have good graphics to begin with) is suddenly this big controversy.Geez, the way people are reacting to this makes the Clinton-Lewinski thing look miniscule. We live ina strange world when a fictional video game is more controversial than than our nations Presidents' adultery.
Its a dumb game, but its no more influential to our children than the violence they see in school everyday,at home,or what they see on the news.
This is really stupid, and I'm probably not making much sense...but I certainly hope this lady spends her life savings fighting Rockstar Games, only to lose and waste all of her money. When her 14 year old son grows up with no inheritence,he can always appreciate what his grandmother is teaching him right now----greed.Wow,now I wonder who is the worst influence on the kid---the granny who is teaching him to be superficial and exploit anyone or anything for her own gain,or Rockstar for simply emulating what most 14 year old have already seen in many cases?

She's admitted to buying a game whose rating recommended it for someone 17 or older, for a 14 year old, I don't know about you guysm or that weasally ******* Jack Thompson, who'll be all over this, but this lady shouldn't have any credibility. And if worse comes to worse, with luck, Rockstar and Take Two can appeal and drag things out beyond the woman's ability to pay for lawyers. I never thought simply being able to outlast the other guy in court was a very good thing, but meh...

Exactly, I mean a 85 year old grandma? She sure as heck can't take it with her, honestly I can't fathom why anyone would want to sue Rockstar Games. The whole AO rating for GTA:SA fueled the fire, now this!? :bang head It's sort of funny talking to people outside the USA, they all say the same thing "Better watch it or you might get sued there (US)" Hahahah  :argue:
Silly silly woman. Its rated 17+ for a reason. This is ****ed up.
People are so damn stupied, those who buy mature rated games for their little kiddies should recieve a felony as if it was buying/selling/giving liqure or drugs to a minor.
well i hate to admit it, but our country (the united states) is full of f'ing morons. this is some dumb old ***** that thought it would be cool for her 14yo grandson to play a game where he'd run around killing and jacking people. i don't think sex is worse than violence... i think she probably hasn't got some in a long time and watches too much tv. i bet she is in high standing in her church too.

Was sechs not an issue in GTA:3? From what I have seen from screen shots of hot coffee the models don't even look finished. The chick looks like a blow up doll.
So she is sueing R* for being irresponsible for allowing her to be irresponsible? I am confused.14<17+<AO no matter how you look at it.
My mom used to be very picky on what I played because she was over protective and semi religious. I am now married and 21 so that doesn't matter, but heres my experience: Killer Instinct was taken away from me not for content, but because of the name. I bought MGS:1 when it first came out, 3 times total before I got to keep it. She kept taking it back. Metal Gear was rated adult for violence and sexual content. Remeber? "Look at her butt" That was the extent of the content. I lost FF3(6) and later Xenogears because of references to biblical and other religious names/subjects.
At the time this all seemed anal to me. But now I know it was just my mom being protective and she wasn't going to take the time to preview entire games for me. This eased up as I reached 15-16 and now I play whatever I want.
Parents need to be parents.

I new this was going to happen and this is just the perfect case to be thrown out of court right away.
Cohen said in the suit that she bought the game in late 2004 for her grandson when it was rated "M" for mature, for players 17 and older. According to the suit, she directed that it be taken away from her grandson, which was done.
Well if she bought it in 2004 that means it was on PS2 only? Possibley Xbox? (sorry didn't totally follow this game release) So that means that someone would have had to make a hack, and then some how get it over to the system and make it work that way? XBox I could see more then PS2 but come on thats console writen all over it probley not the easiest thing to unlock. For the PC though welll thats a different story.
Overall the case is total BS.
Game = 17+
Grandma = 85 + Kid = 14 does not = over 17+ for both
Grandma is going to get all anal over this now, because truely yes even though its 17+ or even 18+ now doesn't mean jack *@($ because the game is suppose to be only played by that crowd. Besides that they only check the buyers of the game, not the actual people that play it. Even then it can be forged with the typical (please enter your b-day, ooh don't know how to get around that).
Okay, before i flick my "overload-spaz" switch, has GTA: SA been pulled from the shelves? People are selling them on ebay up to $80 and i googled and theres alota info on GTA:SA and Pulled from shelves...
-edit-
Called local Best Buy
"We pulled it off the shelves because we are a family retail store and ESRB changed the rating for the 'nudity content' and will rerelease a version later on that is patched so the ESRB is back down to Mature"
/sigh
this "patch" better not be a 'nice man, no blood and walls are padded for protection' game...

But why is everyone sueing people over there about ****e like that there's Michael Jackson's case on child abuse. Now he's getting sued again by some bloke saying he abused him years ago and now you've got someone who bought a game.
Probably knowing what it was about considering it's had 2 games out before it GTA3 & Vice City. And decides that the only way is too sue for damages oh how the system works it's rubbish.

I agree completely. Theres a reason why the game has the big M on the case. The reason there suing is because they suck ass at video games and they cant take responsibility for what there underage kids buy these days. The other reason they are suing, and probably the main reason, is the $$$, money is the epidamy of evil when greed is thrown into the blender. Thats why all I want is to pay the bills and to overclock the living crap out of my system. But untill I get a PHCH setup im stuck....lol
Every system will always be rubbish and there will always be thoughs that voice there opinions even if there view is a bit disfunctional. People simply cant take the responsibility of taking what is given to them. The people that sue Video game industries say that the crime rates are going up, and its because of the video games, well, i havnt seen any figures and ill be damned if its because of a video game, and until they can prove that it is, im just gonna argue till my tongue falls off.
They also say that Video Games dimish education in todays kids. Why is it that all the nerds that make good grades play tons of games then? Its called problem solving, and lots of it. What do these dicks think games are? Just random walking around killing, maybe GTA, but gimme a politician that can beat Fatal1ty in a math test, I dont know if hes good at math, but Im willing to bet hes more intuitve and imaginative than a damn politician. F***, I cant believe its ending up like this. Before you know it, theres gonna be a slight humm in the atmosphere from all the crying and complaining thats goin on, o, thats noise pollution, we cant do that, ILL SUE!! :argue: :bang head

Speaking of which, GTA:SA graphics arent that good humans/polygon wise, so I wouldnt see the point in fussing over the Coffe stain. On the other hand, Dead or Alive has always had some nude cheat (if I remember right) and I dont see anyone complaining about this. Maybe its because the DOA girls are more attractive.. lol.

back in the da killer instinct (SNES) had a topless cheat and that was when people were a lot more conservative and they got away with it... so... maybe this is just blown up way too much right now.
at least they are done with saying violent video games are too bad for children and just have moved on to the softcore sex which is ok to have on tv late at nite when most children have nightmares and would be flipping through thechannels.

haha a 85 year old. anyway, i heard rockstar said that the nude woman was placed there by "a hacker" which so sounds like a lie to me. But either way, leave rockstar alone, they do a good job
Maybe the gaming whole should sue this woman (if she wins or not) for causing GTA:SA to be removed from the shelves and keeping us from having fun....
If not that, Rockstar should put a minigame in the next GTA where you have to "deal" with people like this ( get yourself sued for dumb things hidden mode) *sorta like the eveyone hates me cheat*

Wow, I totally agree and with rockstars creativity, I bet they have already thought ofthis. I would love to see this in the next game. They dont even know why there suing them, they heard there was a nude scene, and jumped on it. Knowing full well that the game was M rated, but thats not enough, why havnt they jumped on R rated movies with sex scenes? Because they love to diminish the youths perspective. Its kinda like when they say we dont know what real manual labor is, but they put laws up that keep us from being able to experience "real" manual labor. I work on an Oil Rig and I deal with D*cks like this all the time. I love being able to slap them in the face and say, AND IM A COMPUTER NERD. When they think only redknecks work on Oil Rigs.
Wow, I could go on and on about them protecting there argument with frivelous laws and lawsuits.

Atleast you dont have to worry about not getting to play on your overclocks. But yeah, thats pretty sad. No matter how much I demolish someone in a videogame, the thought of killing a real person makes me kringe, I dont see how it could make you even think about it. You see how easy it is to get killed, why would you try to do it? Of course, that wont sink into the Pollies out there. This is correct, as my friend practically runs a gamestop store. What the deal is, is that someone very high up gets people to stop by each store & remove every single GTA:S (M +17 Rated) version in inventory. After that they physically destroy them, were talking a huge pile of GTA:SA games being crushed. What a complete waste of material. :eh?:
I asked him if maybe he could pocket a few of them or something, but it is impossible. The guys that come in have a complete inventory listing, if one is missing they will flip. They are taking this crap VERY SERIOUSLY.

What makes me mad is that people who DON't game and have NEVER played a video game comes in and has say over anything over anybody in the gaming community, its like to imagine another country coming in and saying "No u can't have this because theres nudity in it"
I want to live on my own world with no arrogant people on it...
I mean hell... my grandpa (whom is 72 years old) plays games, has no problem with any type of nudity wether it be on tv or game, wouldn't have any fued with GTA: SA. Its just those who are afraid of change have to be all "worried".

Thats exactly how I feel about this. Thats funny, cause I have an Uncle that is 65 years old and HES the one that got me into playing games and building computers in the first place, when I was 11. There's not one person that I know what doesnt like him, I wonder what they would say if they new he plays so many video games.

This thread shows the level of Intelligence of most American people and other people of the world.
The standards the Gov't has set for America does not jive with what the American people want. We CAN do something about it. Even though people may not think so anymore, the people are the most powerful voice in the process of the United States. Speak up! Tell your Senators and Congressmen that you are not satified with the state of our affairs and why. Also tell them that these frivoulous lawsuits have to stop. It is eating away at our society. It is costing US money to pay for THEIR money making schemes.
Nudity is a taboo subject to many. In other parts of the world (that have been around MUCH longer than the US) it is not so taboo. I belive that nudity should not be shown to very young children, but when you start getting into tenns playing games, it;s nothing they have not seen before. Anyone who believes that teens have not seen it before is seriously fooling themselves.
The woman may not win this suit. In fact, she may end up facing charges herself for buying it. She may also face frivolous charges. I doubt it will happen, but I hope it worth that chance to her.
Take a look at what people around the world think of the way we act sometimes in the US. They go by what they see. They see a sue happy society. It's got to stop. Most of this stems from people who cannot deal with reality and accept responsibility for their actions. At least the rest of us can take comfort in knowing these individuals are in the minority, and while they make big news, it is not the consensus of all Americans.

I agree with you completely. The biggest and most disturbing thing in my opinion on frivelous suits is insurance. We gripe about insurance all the time, and blame the insurance companies, as I will admit ive done. People suing the Insurance Agencies every time you turn around, and insurance fraud, is what makes our insurance rates go up.
I dont think nudity should be in any games whatsoever on a console, if its on a PC game, its probably because someone with to much time has skinned it in place of the original. The ratings on the box are there for a reason as ive said, and as long as parents allow their children to own thoughs games, and then turn around and point fingers, then will be viewed as a corrupt society. Which isnt completely true.
It bothers me because the ones that do complain about this and sue everytime you turn around, are the ones that are on the news, there the ones that everyone in the UK, Japan, Russia, Israel, Iraq, e v e r y w h e r e, this is all these countries know about us. The reason they dont see the good side of America is because they only see the ones that do complain. People like me that put up with whatever is thrown at me, dont speak up because we dont bother complaining. So this is to the people that dont live in the US in these forums: The majority of America is not like that lady you see, the reason it seems like that is because the news media just drools over this and gives it publicity along with as much spin as they can put on it.
Back tothe games. lol. Man, I dont guess you could call this a Hijacked thread, since were still talking about people getting SUED. But if we did hijack it, we did a damn good job of it.

I know what you mean. The Gamerz reputation is at steak with this deal. And the game companies. Thats why I whole-heartedly believe in "dont burn it till you try it".
This is just getting ridiculous, just the fact that you can sue anyone for anything makes me sick, it needs to be chg!

Wow. Thats crazy. I hope know one gets me wrong on this. I dont agree with what Rockstar did. But I dont care, because the game was rated M for M A T U R E 17+. Just like a rated R movie.

Yes. Yes you do. :) Indecent exposure to yourself. You should actually sue yourself, and put a restraining order on yourself. :burn:
Yes. Yes you do. :)

See. Theres your proof right there.
Its funny, im sure there are people out there that have tried this. And it wouldnt surprise me at all.
You know what would be uber funny. If one of Rockstars programmers put the hidden code in there as a joke, and showed to some friends, had a good laugh over what it would be like, and just simply forgot to take it out. Wow, I dont think he would have a job. But knowing rockstar, they would probably just congradualte the guy on good programming and invite him over for dinner. :p
haha probaly. There isnt much to see when it happens anyways...its actually quite corny roflmao

Hahahaha. Like I said. Lame. :p
Sueing is too easy. I'd say less than 1 in 10 lawsuits are actually about morality and safety and the-right-thing and whatnot. The rest being just poor and/or greedy sons of bitches trying to get free money out of some company. God forbid someone just use sensible judgement in their decision making, and god forbid they just ask a company nicely to fix something. Nope, gotta sue em. Gotta get a couple million bucks out of them because you "know they can afford it", so your lazy ass can quit your job and sit on your ass on the couch all day at home.
In GTA you can cut off a cop's head with a samurai katana and watch his blood spurt 5 feet in the air as his body falls to the ground. You can snipe someone in a passing car with a sniper rifle and watch their headless bloody body fall out of the door. You can beat store clerks with a baseball bat and brass knuckles to rob them of $50. You can take a chainsaw to a hooker or some lady at the mall and watch the bodies fall and blood spew, for the $10 they drop - or just because you felt like it. You can destroy a bus full of people with a mini rocket launcher. You can run over a guy on a motorcycle with an army tank and watch the bloody tire tracks trail for 50 feet. You can shoot a little advertising plane or the police helicopter out of the sky with an Apache helicopter. You can use an ice cream truck to drive around town and sell drugs in the various neighborhoods and streets. You can kill 30 people in 10 seconds with a 5000 round mini gun and see the heads fly, the blood pool, the bodies drop, and then run over the bodies to take their money.
But download a patch, use a code, and see a little tits and ass? See someone gettin it on?
"OMG OMG OMG! HIDE THE KIDS! DESTROY THE GAME! CALL THE STORE UP AND COMPLAIN! CALL YOUR LAWYER! SUE THE COMPANY!!
And some nice company's latest game comes to a screeching halt because you dreamt up some impression that a little pixelate tits and ass has on your kid. Set aside the fact that you bought them a game that had 17+ written on it.
Right then. Welcome to America, the land of opportunities and dreams: get rich like a normal person and sue someone.
Violent, relentless, remorseless brutality: approved
Sex and titties: banned and sued.
Sex is something they figure out all on their own in middle school. What do you think they're thinking about at 12? Screwing all the hot chicks in class and trying to look up skirts and down shirts and cop a feel in a crowded lunch line, or decapitating cops with samurai ninja katanas and taking a chainsaw to a girl in a two piece laying on the beach and watching the sand around their body and the towel pool with blood? Then when both show up in a game, you balk and at the former and just walk away and not think twice at the latter?

Didnt Quake 2 have a sex scene ?
Last level, were the boss is...
You go under the ramps on the side, and its shaped like a T under the Main floor...
Go into the T part, fire a rocket at the wall, and a Tank Commander is having his way with the Iron Madians.
Or is my memory just shot?
lol, how pathetic..
I hope this doesnt stop future GTA's :(
Okay, here's the breakdown IMO on why Rockstar is getting bashed so hard. Yes there was the nudity cheat for DOA, yes there was the nudity mod for the SIMs but does the average american know this? No, not really. Rockstar has been hated by the polititians for a long time. The point of GTA is to kill cops, and to go against authority plain and simple. The problem (for the polititians) is that most Americans don't have a problem with violence, but for some reason there's some uber taboo against sexuality.
To tell you guys the truth, I find it hilarious just to randomly say the name of certain obscene body parts in front of my friends because it makes some of them slightly uneasy. So to me, the polititians are taking advantage of this to A) boost the sheeple's confidence in them and to B) make rockstar, a company a good many of them hate, pay for being deviant. It's kind of how if a teacher hates you, she'll be watching for you to do somehing wrong.
But maybe there's something we could do (US guys), maybe if we sent letters to our congressmen stating our position, clearly and politely, and reminded them that we'll remember their decision in the next election, maybe that'll help stem the tide. Because, I think it's a parents duty to teach and monitor their kids (oh noes it's so hard to go to gamestop and look at the trailer ) not the government's.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=fully+informed+jury if one of us US guys gets called in for jury duty on this thing...

I really think this explains it really well:
The continuing saga known as Hot Coffee-gate took another unexpected turn as the mod community reacted strongly against the ESRB and U.S. senators that have gone after Rockstar and the community regarding the GTA: San Andreas sexually explicit material.
The entire gaming industry stood accused last week as US senators managed to point the finger at Rockstar and the modding community and claim that they both undermined the entire U.S. game rating system.
Some of the leading modders got together at GTAGarage.com and put together a variety of letters and a press release that were sent out to U.S. senators. The letter sent out to senator Clinton, Mr. Yee and Mr. Thompson states: In recent statements by the ESRB, they have accused the mod community of undermining their ratings by putting sexually explicit material into PC games, namely San Andreas, which was already rated "M". However, if you look into a game by the name of "Singles - Flirt up your Life", it becomes quite clear they are doing a good job of that all by themselves. This "M" rated game features full frontal nudity (and not androgynous "barbies" like The Sims) and characters engaging in interactive sexual scenes.
The letter also goes on to point out that other games are not treated in the same way claiming that: ...for that matter, what of the game "Playboy: The Mansion", which is based on the skin magazine, and is also rated "M"?!
The modding community has reacted and it has done so in style, in an attempt to expose the entire GTA:SA story as a hypocritical exercise aimed at what was considered a soft target and serving many purposes, few of which have anything whatsoever to do with decency.
I think this is what weve been trying to say. Enjoy.

No way whatsoever.
The government needs Rockstar just like they need the Tobacco industry and the Beer industry. Do you realize how much the government would lose in a year if Rockstar were fazed out? Probably be enough to justify them raising our taxes a little. There would be such a huge uproar from the gaming community, that they would not know were they went wrong.

Chances are she knew about the content already, bought it then sued :/
Silly silly woman. Its rated 17+ for a reason. This is ****ed up.
And she knew it!
There's a reason why in US we see signs that would say: "DANGER! Do not put your head between the gate when its CLOSING! It can injure or even KILL YOU!"
And the reason for such signs is because the company who makes those gates can be sued here in US because they didn't warn people! If you see that gates will smash your head, they WILL!
P.S. I hope I didn't offend anyone, but I think everybody remmembers why Starbucks has to warn everybody that their HOT coffee is actually HOT!!!
