I was just wondering what a good cpu temp for my tbird 1.0ghz would be if it isn't oc'ed. I am getting temps as high as 53c is this too hot, this is with a sk6 hsf.

with a sk6 thats pretty hot. you should be at least in the lower 40's with that hsf(unless you have a slower/quiter fan, which isn't a bad idea at all). It's not anything to worry that much about, as most people will tell you 50c is good temp to stay under. What kind of case coolind do you have?
Are you using artic silver II thermal compound? If not, that could lower temps by more than 3-4c.

Yea that's real hot for a SK6 and a not clocked 1Ghz Birdy!
i am getting temps like 38C idle for my not clocked 1.2GhzBirdy
but it'z running on a 7V so that's why it wasn't that cool
but the 7V mod is really good
well i would say it'z worth it !

Your temps are safe, but too high (if that makes sense). You've got a quality HSF there and it should cool better that mid 50s. Unless your case cooling is poor or possible your HSF is not seated properly on the CPU core.
You should use Arctic Silver II as an interface between your CPU and the HSF, but even without it the SK6 should do better on your chip than that.
Give us a little more idea on the layout of your system (extra fans, etc) and also check to be sure the SK6 is seated properly on your core.

Make sure that your SK-6 is turned the correct way when you mounted it. I had mine turned the wrong way and my temps were about 7C higher then it should have been. Once I turned the heatsink the correct way, my CPU temps dropped conciderably.

Thanks for your help guys, I have a midtower case with a fan upfront pulling air in and a fan in the rear pushing air out. Which way should the heatsink be seated on the core, I ran out of asII and used the cheap ole radio shack kind, for now.

LOL!
No problem. I think that you will see a lot of difference in temps if you have the heatsink on wrong. Good luck! let me know what happens.

Just the clip being put on right made a world of difference, now my load temps are just 47c. this is with a 26cfm fan on it right now. I have to sleep by this thing, i don't want it to sound like a jet plane. Thank you to everybody who responded to my cries for help.
