I'm looking to build a system around a DFI nF4 lanparty ultra-D, and I hear that a crap PSU can really drag these boards down. What PSUs and manufacturers would you recommend?

You mentioned budget in you thread title, so I start off with lower cost ATXv2.x+ units.

First off is the Fortron AX-500 Blue storm. It costs $73 at Ewiz and is perhaps the best PSU at that price around. You can't beat the deal you are getting here and the quality of the unit is wonderful

Another good choice would be the S-12 series from Seasonic. They are prooving to be very capable units that are some of the quietist around. Also, all of them are VERY VERY efficient so while powering your rig they are also saving you energy costs.

I just got the S12 and it is amazing. You can not hardly hear it. That or OCZ or sparkle would get my vote

OCZ Powerstream 520 is awesome although the Fortron 530w Powersupply is a better buy in some other people's opinions.

He is specifically looking for ATX 2.0+ power supplies. Neither the OCZ 520 or the Fortron are.

The OCZ 600 is, but its not worth recommending.

I think the new revisions are but I'm not sure.

I would not consider the Fortron 530w to be superior to the powerstream 520w. Possibly you are thinking of the sparkle FSP550-60PLG? I have both the fortron 530 and the powerstream 520w and the my preference is certainly for the powerstream, although in terms of cost they are in 2 totaly different ballparks so its not really an apples to apples comparison.

I am not sure I would say its a budget psu, but your best bang for your buck is going to be the Sparkle FSP550-60PLG. Downside to this is the heat and noise it puts off. If you don't want to fuss with replacing the fan in it then the powerstream is nice, but not at all in the budget psu price range in my opinion.

The ANTEC TPII430 TRUEPOWER 2.0 ATX PSU at $79 is a very good value; The ANTEC TPII550EPS12V TRUEPOWER 2.0 EPS at $110 is competitively priced with other higher-end PSUs and has a noise output of only 21.3 dBA.

While I acknowledge the excellent build quality of Fortron, OCZ and PC Power & Cooling units, I've always had excellent results with Antec, especially their upper-level units. Antec's wider availability always has tipped the scales for me.

It's a good supply and quiet, but may need stronger fans for really stiff loads.

I'm currently using this PSU on the system in my sig and it stays around 10C above ambient. Here's the load in a nutshell:

AMD A64 3700+ San Diego
2 each 6600GTs
3 raptors
1 300G WD SATA
1 DVD-RW
3 120mm case fans
1 120mm blower
2 60mm intake fans @ 7v

My usage typically employs all of these devices simultaneously, so it's a fairly decent load as is, but 6800/7300s would draw quite a bit more....
