Hard Drive Problem ><

some info

-Problem hard drive is a 40g maxtor (might be 7200 RPM but I am pretty sure its 5400 RPM)
-Its the slave on the channal
-Master is a 40g wd 7200 drive
-Os: winXP
-Service Pack 2 installed
-Cmos sees the drive
-Device Manager sees the drive
-Device Manager shows drivers are installed and no newer once are avalible

Problem: XP doesnt see the drive, or rather I cant open it, doesnt show up in my computer etc so cant really get to it.

any ideas?

go the administrative services and see if it recognizes it there. Is it unformated or does it have info on it?

haha thank you so much, I am not a complete idiot and you triggered my memory cells. Its a new disk no data. Went to hard disk management and it was there, set a partition and formated it and it worked... >< I feel stupid lol.

*sigh if its not one things its the next. this is on another computer. I have a 120g wd drive and the computer will not see it, yet others do.

I should say the other drive on this computer is a SATA raptor. For some reason also I have IDE chanals 1 and 2 but my SATA chanals are seen as IDE 3 and 4. Is that normal?

Anyway basicaly the computer will not see the 120g wd unless the jumpers are set on master or cs, in which case it tried to boot from it and obviously fails since the os is on the raptor. :bang head :bang head :bang head
