So I did some quick searching and nothing came up, sorry if it's been asked before, but does anyone know if it's possible to like purchase another key direct from microsoft for a copy of WinXP? I need two copies of WinXP Home ASAP, and don't want to wait for Newegg if at all possible? I already have a retai (OEM) WinXP Home disc here to do the installations, but no licenses for the extra two copies I need.

I do not believe you can simply purchase another key from Microsoft in the manner you are asking about.

If you purchase an OEM version of Windows, you can 'upgrade' it to an Open Volume License within 90 days after purchase, after which you can purchase more licenses and use the same key, but it actually ends up costing you a small amount more, believe it or not. It's much easier to set up a large network that way though.

You are going to be better off buying an OEM copy from Newegg; they usually send you a small piece of 'hardware' like a CD audio cable or resistor or something to comply with the license agreement.

Yeah I purchase them from newegg all the time for my buisness, but I'm in a jam with this client today who thinks he needs them NOW, but doesn't want to spend the amount that BestBuy and Walmart charge for a retail copy... so I guess he'll just have to wait :p

Thanks.

your client should have a timeline, he cant expect it now :)

you can bill him large as you give him your copy and you buy the cheap one for the 1/5th of the price :)

I'm surprised you can't call up microsoft, give them your credit card #, and they give you x amount of keys. It would make small PC repair place's lives so much easier.

Depending on your situation, you may be able to find a distributor that can get you the C.O.A.'s only (just the sticker with the key, no CD). But, not a lot of distributors have the ability to get just the COA's, and if they can, they may not be able to sell it to you if you're not a re-seller.

As of this past weekend you can purchase from MS directly on their website via the Windows Update Page. (LOL Yes I'm serious) Some nut down the street bought a bogus copy from a local 'flea market' and found out Saturday night during a windows update session that his copy was not legit. The poor fool used his CC# and bought a license online thru MS. $149 dollars and he got a legit serial number and in 4-6 weeks they ship him a 'free' CD. LMAO. . . .

Sorry wasnt thread jacking.
