Okay, haven't played any PC games in a while so I pick up Sid Meiers Pirates and install it.. Now I tried playing it on a fresh WinXP installed HDD.. got a 1GB of RAM, Radeon 9800 I mean a decent rig.. I used to play Counter Strike with this PC with no problems.. but here's the problem I get

I hear my Hard Drive click.. it happens a few times during the game.. then the game may freeze or after I quit the game I might be opening Winamp or something and my PC will freeze..

If no one can solve this problem can we try and narrow it down to what may be the problem?

K, Thanks all!

could be a dieing hdd or a loose power connector, have you checked all the molexes that are connected or near your videocard to make sure they are secure?

Run a Diskcheck on your hard drive. Backup everything as soon as you can too. Sounds like a bad hard drive so I'd be prepared for the worst.

well im not so sure tho... heres why

i installed pirates on my 120GB HDD which has tons of stuff on it.. I had the exact same problem

then i do a clean WinXP install on my 80GB HDD and install Pirates on that.... same problem

Now I know both my HDD aren't like dying.. can it be anything else?

Did you try running disk check? My computer--> rightclick hd--> properties --> tools --> run disk check.

ran disk check on both drives..

the check ran straight through, didn't stop at all.. so im guessing it was problem free
