Which of these two drives is faster? Seagate 250GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148065) or Hitachi 250GB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822145087) ?I have always had good luck with Seagate; but I have been hearing nothing but good things about Hitachi’s current offerings. The Seagate claims a seek time of 8ms while the Hitachi is rated at 8.5. It’s so hard to choose between these two drives.

The hitachi is faster from what I have seen.

I have a related question... Are all the hitachis about the same speed? I'm not sure if I need 250gb of space really.

Do you know of any good reviews that compare the two?

Go for the Hitachi's, as I have owned both.

The Seagates have the best transfer speeds, but they lag behind other 250GB Hard Drives in the seek time department. The Hitachi's, on the other hand, have the fastest seek time of any comparable 7200 RPM drive; hence, they're much much snappier than the Seagates.

Ok I am going to try a couple of Hitachi's. I was just a little confused because the specs on newegg say that seagate has the faster seek time, 8ms vs 8.5ms for the Hitachi.

not to contradict what everyone is saying here, but i own both, and the hitachi started developing bad sectors after a month, so i had to rma it. the seagate is fast and has been a great drive for the past 6/9 months in which i've had it.

The 4 Seagates I have have been very reliable for a few months now. I was just wondering if they are outdated and the Hitachi's are better. Hopefully the Hitachies are good because I should be recieving them tomorrow

my hitachi "incident" was probably just a one-off, but the 5yr warranty of the seagates was also a big plus for me - it shows confidence in their product, and if it does screw up, i'll be able to send it back many years down the line.
just my two cents anyway :D.

I ordered a Hitachi T7K250 last night... Was having a hard time deciding between that or a Samsunf Spinpoint.
