Ottoman, I've deleted your post as well as the rest of the thread.
There is NO legal copy of XP "running around". Illegal warez are NOT to be discussed in this forum. Period.
Consider this your only warning.
As for the rest of you, if you weren't aware of our policy, you are now.
Thanks to those who reported this!

aight,
just a quick question, every time someone discusses XP here, and usually they're are talking about professional, and not an RCx version, doesn't that mean their discussing warez?
No, not really. There are a couple of ways it can be had.
1. XP has been released to large OEM's that are already pre-installing it and shipping it on new systems...
2. System builders have OEM copies that are not pre-installed that they sell with a new system. I saw them first hand locally yesterday at a dealer for sale.

thanx man...
props for the support
But, Before you get too comfortable....
The fact that you mentioned you had obtained Plus! (Not released yet/ Pre-Order Only), and that you called it an ISO image do lend me to believe that the copies were not legit.
So, i believe Shadow made the right call, and I would know when to say thank you for the slap on the wrist and drop it...
I was simply mentioning that XP was available through the correct channel's and in no way supporting piracy.
i have to agree with micro and topo. there are plenty of ways to get the pro version legally.
but if he posted such things as it was image, just tell him not to and aleast let him edit his post with the orig question in it.
just with out the warez mentions.:)

aiight,
we can debate this legit stuff all day,
back to my original question...
here's the error message I get when trying to upgrade...
c:\windows\system\tcgravih.cpl error31
sxs.dll: syntax error in manifest or policy file e:\I386\asms\6000\msft\windows\common\controls.con in line 0
e:\I386\aims manifest parse error
installation failed..
I got the same message, trying to upgrade to XP from win98se, and ME
so what's up with it?
i also have a legal version of xp too.
havent installed it yet.
now as for the problem. the I386 is where everything for installation comes from which i think you would know.
so when it comes to that, it makes me think that theres something wrong with where your installing it from.:)
but hey im not an expert.:)

That's a bold statement considering the current party...!
The ISO is designed for use with an installation kit called the OPK to avoid the problems that Ottoman is having.
----from MS website
The set of software tools necessary for correct and efficient preinstallation and customization of the software are included in each multipack and called the OEM Preinstallation Kit (OPK).
During preinstallation using the OPK, you have the ability to customize and control the build. For example, the Windows XP OPK allows you to:
Customize the Windows XP Startup Screen to show your OEM logo.........etc
Customize the Windows XP Start Menu with your favorite application shortcuts.
Control and customize unattended preinstallations using custom configuration sets.
Deliver a ready-to-use, built-to-order system by preinstalling and testing all programs and applications, including updated drivers and patches.
Configure and customize Microsoft Internet Explorer, including Favorites and URL lists containing your Web site.
Ensure compliance with the terms of the Microsoft Distribution and Preinstallation Agreement.
Save valuable time preinstalling Windows XP using a configuration set that does not require you to manually answer setup questions one by one.
I read on the Microsoft newsgroups that the manifest parse error
means that the software was D/L from the microsoft site as part of a beta test program and that the download is corrupt. THe newsgroup went on to say that this error message only appears on downloaded versions of WinXP.

So I'm SOL?
Why not go back to where you got the software from?

yup. Of course if you legally obtained your copy then you can always re-download it. Right?
some of you guys are just good ole *******s. condeming someone because maybe they broke the law. who are you to judge. i'm not talking about the forum admins,it's their job to keep warez off their site. i'm talking about you guys who are just regular users, if someone is using warez, let them get busted the legit way, report them to the bsa if your such a law abiding citzen.
And just who are you referring to?
