I just finished building a new machine with a Athlon 1.4ghz, and plan to do quite a bit of overclocking. I want the best CPU cooling possible, so should I go with a peltier or water cooling?

If you really want the best cooling, go with a vapochill. :)

Otherwise your best bet is probably a watercooled peltier as aircooled peltiers aren't the best.

try just water cooling first and you can go to peltier later if you want

agreed, just try good ol watercooling first then add a pelt later if you want and really crank her up :)

Agree too, bare in mine that unless you get a dual high Watt peltiers, don't expect too much improvement using peltier for T-bird.

Okay, thanks. Any recommendations on a waterblock and radiator, or should I try to make a home-made one?

both waterblock and radiator can be found here (www.dangerden.com)

get a cube radiator and the maze2 or maze2-1 waterblock

I recommend a bing cooler (http://www.overclockers.com/articles389/). They can be far more effectice than radiators and you get to build it yourself! If you want more info, check out the bong secion of the links here (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=168521).

Having been through the ringer on this a few times I would recommend getting a firm handle on watercooling first. Once you understand the variables and have your system tuned, then it's time to look into pelts. I highly recommend the Danger Den gear that has been cited earlier in this thread. Bong Coolers are fine if you can put up with their limitiations. Due to the load presented by dual pelts and a CPU, the bong cooler is my current favorite but the new Super Cube combined with the Cooling Cube I currently have and a 1200 GPH pump may retire my Bong Cooler.

I know that bongs are not without limits, but what limits are you referring to?

Prepositions aren't things to end sentances with.

do for both, a high power peltier will need watercooling

Bong coolers make lots of steam. that is one huge limitation if people start complaining. you also need a way to cut down on noise.

Cut down on noise? You mean the noise from the pump? A gentle humming is better than my POS Thermaltake orb any day.
