I bought a couple of those nifty new pIII's with the Tualatin cores and I got some cool overclocking results on them.. but I can't post because there isn't an option for the new pIII's in the database!

Can someone add one please so I can feel all better about myself by making a few posts? :)

Well the data base is handled by skip... along with the forums... and the rest of OC.com
so if you need something added you will want to talk to him.

Can we see some benchmarks, I have thought about getting one verr soon, tualatin or amd 1400 I can't decide.

Hmm something happened to the bottom picture - lemme check on that.... Wow this is weird - does everybody else see a green bar crossing out part of the sisoft image? It's fine on my machine here, but seems to be corrupted when I upload it. Tried deleting and reloading it three times.

Think i'll have to get one of them, I have a VH6-II, I heard that a BIOS update might support the new tulatins, on the otherhand I have herd that a new mobo will be needed, anyone know for sure. think it has somthing to do with voltage an I/O.

If it has the 815EP chipset I think you're good to go, might need a bios update. If it's not the 815EP (EP being the important thing to note) it won't work - period, might even kill the chip. Although the tualatins use socket 370, some of the pins have been assigned different purposes, plus it uses some other different features that older chipsets don't support. If the VH6-II does use the 815EP chipset, make sure the current bios will recognize the chip - if it doesn't it might use the wrong voltage and fry the chip. I know with the tusl2C that I'm using the bios doesn't recognize the large cache version and applies 1.7 volts default, versus the 1.45 it's supposed to use. So far no problems, but I've got good cooling and fingers crossed.

In edit - Via also has a chipset that supports the tualatin, it's a revised version with a T added to the end. I forget the rest of the designation, but there are some via based boards out there also.

tc the chip looks awesome. i dont want to start a big debate but i'm curious about how it runs compared to your other chips.

Not a bad idea. This chip clocked at 1583 seems to be about the same as a 2GHz willy - so the northwood will beat it, at a price of course. I'd show you some benchmarks but that would jeopardize my NDA.

Well as I said it's about as fast as a 2GHz willy. I just got some Athlon XP's in, and I have not run a full set of benchmarks, but if you want to take Seti for a benchmark, the P3S at 1583 is about the same as a 1.33 XP overclocked to 1600. We're just talking rough estimates here - not exhaustive comparisons. I think the extra cache gives it the edge to be more or less as good as the Palomino core - give or take some obviously. I think Intel could squeeze up to 1.7GHz out of this chip, but doubt we'll ever see a desktop version of that. Mostly shows what's likely to come in laptops and the celeron.

Powerleap has already come out with a tualatin slot adapter and they say they are working on a socket adapter presently to allow even old BX boards like the BP6 to work with tualatin

My BH6 only has the 1/3 divisor at 133FSB. I wonder if that means Paul is overclocking his whole machine to run the 1.13GHz processor. I think it uses 133FSB...?

Are those results from the chip you bought the other day? Or you find new ones?

Can hardly wait to get my new mobo (Iwill DVD266u) with the VIA Apollo Pro266T Chipset.

If you want to run a Tualatin you'll need to use the 815EP B stepping, Apollo Pro133T or Apollo Pro266T chipsets. Or wait for the Powerleap adapter.:D

If you want to run a Tualatin you'll need to use the 815EP B stepping, Apollo Pro133T or Apollo Pro266T chipsets. Or wait for the Powerleap adapter.:D

Will ask Paul and see if I get a response...although their forum is kinda slow. I drop in every once and a while as i'm currently using their neo s370 on my bp6

Alpha PAL 6035's with delta 38 fans. They run about 97F under full load. - 1.7 core voltage.

Haven't you tried with watercooling? Or with a Peltier? With the low heat they generate a small pelt can eaisly be putted over a Tualatin.

I did the following to my PIII850E. I used a 52 W peltier with a coolermaster copper heatsink (50mm square) with a Topmotor 50*50*25 mm fan and are achieving around 34-38°C when crunching SETI, and when the other day SETI stopped while I wasn't tending my computer, the temperatures when just to around 22°C.....so if you really don't want to be overcooling your CPU you could easily use one of this small peltiers.
